Participation in mission electives is highly encouraged.
Currently, our team includes eight full-time fellowship-trained Head & Neck surgical oncologists, five of whom specialize in microvascular reconstruction. Additionally, two oncologic surgeons are based at our affiliated VA facility. - Microvascular reconstructions
- TOLMS/TORS procedures
- Endoscopic skull base surgeries
- Open and craniofacial surgeries
- Advanced trauma cases
- Complex skin cancer reconstructions
A balanced experience in both ablative and reconstructive surgery is essential, with the fellow's preferences guiding the specific case mix. The fellowship also involves participation in thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, including minimally invasive techniques, re-operative procedures, and surgeries for non-localizing diseases.
The fellow will collaborate with faculty at our institution, selecting cases with minimal oversight to ensure a fellow-directed and well-rounded experience. Teaching residents during surgeries and engaging in limited research activities are expected. If desired, the fellow may also assist at the VA or county hospital for specific cases.
