Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing day-to-day accounting functions supporting one or more of the company's operating subsidiaries, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, journal entries, and assistance with month-end and year-end close. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple entities simultaneously, and comfort working in a fast-paced, multi-company environment.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting & Month-End Close

  • Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, prepaids, depreciation, intercompany allocations, etc.)
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations across assigned operating entities
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to meet reporting deadlines
  • Maintain accurate general ledger detail and supporting schedules

Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable Support

  • Review and reconcile AR/AP subledgers to the general ledger
  • Assist with customer billing related to storage fees, packaging services, or brokerage commissions as applicable
  • Support vendor invoice coding and approval workflows

Intercompany Accounting

  • Prepare and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances across the five operating companies
  • Ensure proper elimination entries are recorded for consolidated reporting

Inventory & Cost Accounting (as applicable by entity)

  • Assist with inventory reconciliations for brokerage and packaging operations (frozen product held in storage, in transit, or in process)
  • Support cost of goods sold analysis and packaging materials/cost tracking
  • Coordinate with warehouse/operations teams on physical inventory counts

Reporting & Analysis

  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting packages by entity and on a consolidated basis
  • Support budget-to-actual variance analysis
  • Assist with schedules for financial statement audits, tax preparation, and lender/bank reporting

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and company policy
  • Support internal control procedures and assist with external audit requests
  • Assist with sales/use tax and other regulatory filings as needed

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with operations, warehouse, and brokerage teams to ensure accurate financial data flow
  • Support ad hoc projects and process improvement initiatives across the parent company and its subsidiaries

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1–4 years of accounting experience (public accounting or industry)
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple entities/deadlines simultaneously
  • High attention to detail and accuracy

Preferred

  • Experience in food/beverage, cold storage/logistics, distribution, or brokerage industries
  • Exposure to multi-entity or consolidated accounting environments
  • Experience with inventory accounting or cost accounting
  • Familiarity with intercompany transactions and eliminations

  • Primarily office-based; occasional visits to warehouse or packaging facility may be required

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $35/Hour to $45/Hour, commensurate with experience
  • Health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) match, PTO.
