The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all engineering functions within a manufacturing environment, including process engineering, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role provides technical leadership across departments while ensuring production processes are efficient, reliable, and aligned with business objectives.
The Engineering Manager plays a critical role in driving process optimization, new product implementation, and equipment improvements, while supporting manufacturing, R&D, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the engineering department, including process engineering and project execution.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, and other methodologies.
- Oversee capital projects, including equipment evaluation, procurement, and implementation.
- Partner with manufacturing to improve yield, efficiency, throughput, and product quality.
- Develop and maintain process specifications, product standards, and bill of materials (BOMs).
- Support new product development and implementation, acting as a liaison between R&D and production.
- Manage process trials, testing, and validation for new and existing products.
- Lead efforts to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency in collaboration with maintenance teams.
- Ensure accurate system data management, including item masters and engineering documentation.
- Support cost analysis, process optimization, and production planning efforts.
- Drive initiatives to reduce defects and improve overall process consistency.
- Provide technical support to internal teams including operations, sales, and engineering.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and technical staff.
- Manage hiring, training, performance evaluations, and career development.
- Assign and prioritize projects based on business needs and deadlines.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and collaboration.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts across engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- 6–10+ years of experience in engineering within a manufacturing environment, including leadership experience.
- Strong background in process engineering, project management, and continuous improvement.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SPC, and DOE methodologies.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as coating, laminating, or fabrication is a plus.
- Strong understanding of capital equipment projects and process optimization.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in R&D, applications engineering, or machine design.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and engineering data management.
- Experience working in high-volume or technical manufacturing environments.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with multiple departments and external stakeholders.
