Accounting Clerk

Position Summary

Growing construction company in Riverside is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join our accounting team. This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, data entry, invoice processing, and job cost support. The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, and able to thrive in a fast-paced construction environment with multiple projects running simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Process vendor invoices and match purchase orders, packing slips, and invoices.
  • Prepare and process weekly check runs and electronic payments.
  • Record customer payments and assist with accounts receivable collections.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and electronic filing systems.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Assist with bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Support project managers by tracking job costs and coding invoices to the appropriate projects.
  • Enter payroll information and assist with payroll processing as needed.
  • Prepare lien waivers, W-9 forms, and other construction-related documentation.
  • Assist with month-end closing activities and financial reporting.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial records.
  • Provide general administrative support to the accounting department.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting principles.
  • Experience with job costing and construction accounting is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and accounting software such as Sage 100, Foundation, Viewpoint, QuickBooks, or similar ERP systems.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with subcontractor invoices, lien releases, certified payroll, and progress billing.
  • Knowledge of prevailing wage and public works projects is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AIA billing and construction contract documentation.
