The Mining Engineer will support the Mining Group in various facets of mine engineering and operational activities.

Salary Range

$105,000 - $135,000, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing mine engineering and planning tasks.
  • Learn and implement all organizational policies and safety protocols to foster a secure work environment.
  • Collaborate and communicate with other engineering teams to complete corporate projects within the mining sector.
  • Gain insights into the cement and aggregate production processes to enhance mining efficiency; understand how changes in manufacturing chemistry affect mineral needs and reserves.
  • Estimate mineral deposits and create appropriate life-of-mine designs for resources.
  • Develop and annually update one, five, and life-of-mine plans utilizing Surpac and MineSched mining software.
  • Oversee mining initiatives such as exploratory drilling or rock mechanics studies.
  • Analyze and assess mining operations to optimize equipment utilization and operational performance.
  • Conduct surveying and inventory tasks as needed using various surveying tools, including GPS, drones, and total stations.
  • Engage with and support plant personnel, corporate staff, and contractors as necessary.
  • Conduct exploration activities on potential new mining sites.
  • Collaborate with the environmental division to ensure mining operations comply with local and federal regulations.
  • Operate as a certified commercial drone pilot for aerial survey tasks.

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline is preferred; degrees in Civil Engineering or Geosciences may also be acceptable based on relevant work experience.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in open-pit mining is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Surpac mining software and AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain FAA Part 107 sUAS drone pilot certification.
  • Surveying expertise is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Highly organized self-starter with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects.
  • Adaptable mindset with the capability to thrive in dynamic situations and adjust priorities as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships across all levels of management and staff.
  • Able to demonstrate sound judgment in problem-solving scenarios.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to walk or hike long distances, stoop, crawl into confined spaces, and climb on equipment for supervision.
  • Capable of traversing various surfaces (including uneven and slippery terrain), climbing stairs, ladders, and stockpiles up to 400 feet high. May involve exploratory work in extreme temperatures and high-altitude areas.
  • Must be able to travel to different plant sites and work locations.
  • Willingness to travel overnight (by air or vehicle).

Employment Conditions

The selected candidate will be required to undergo a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug and alcohol screening, and a background check. Certain positions may necessitate ongoing drug and alcohol testing in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
