Liberty Life Skills is seeking compassionate, reliable, and professional Direct Support Professionals to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their homes and communities.
The DSP will provide person-centered support based on each client’s Individual Program Plan and Individual Service Plan. The goal of the position is to help clients increase independence, maintain health and safety, participate in the community, and make choices about their daily lives.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized support in the client’s home and community.
- Assist clients with personal care, hygiene, grooming, and dressing when required.
- Support meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, and kitchen safety.
- Assist with cleaning, laundry, household organization, and maintaining a safe home.
- Support clients with budgeting, shopping, bill organization, and responsible money management.
- Assist with scheduling, preparing for, and attending medical and dental appointments.
- Provide medication reminders or authorized medication support according to the client’s service plan.
- Support clients with transportation, public transit training, errands, and community activities.
- Encourage participation in recreational, social, educational, employment, or volunteer activities.
- Teach daily living skills through modeling, prompting, coaching, and hands-on practice.
- Support clients in making informed choices and communicating their needs and preferences.
- Respect each client’s privacy, dignity, rights, personal space, relationships, and belongings.
- Observe and report changes in a client’s health, behavior, mood, or living environment.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow all safety procedures.
- Immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, or rights violations.
- Complete accurate and timely daily service notes, goal tracking, incident reports, and other required documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Attend required training, staff meetings, supervision, and client planning meetings.
- Follow Liberty Life Skills policies, client support plans, and Regional Center requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Must be dependable, patient, respectful, and able to work independently.
- Must communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to complete electronic and written documentation.
- Must pass required criminal background checks.
- Must obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
- Must be willing to complete required orientation and ongoing training.
- Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Driving Requirements
For assignments requiring transportation, applicants must have:
- A valid California driver’s license
- Current automobile insurance
- A reliable and safely operating vehicle
- An acceptable driving record
