Quality Specialist – Aerospace Manufacturing

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quality Specialist to join a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing and supply chain environment in Chatsworth, CA. This is an exciting temp-to-hire opportunity for professionals who thrive in quality-driven environments and are passionate about maintaining the highest standards in aerospace compliance and customer satisfaction.

The Quality Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring product integrity, supplier quality performance, audit readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. This position requires advanced inspection expertise, strong analytical skills, and hands-on experience with aerospace quality standards, including AS9100, ISO 9001, and SAE requirements.

This is not simply an inspection role; this position serves as a key quality liaison between internal operations, suppliers, and customers, helping drive operational excellence and compliance at every level.


Key Responsibilities

Customer & Supplier Quality Management

  • Support customer and supplier audits while preparing required quality documentation and audit findings
  • Manage customer quality claims and portal activity, ensuring timely response and resolution
  • Investigate customer rejections, returned materials, waivers, and DPPM concerns
  • Interpret customer specifications, flowdowns, and quality requirements for internal teams
  • Collaborate with suppliers and customers to resolve non-conforming material issues
  • Initiate corrective actions and containment activities for defective materials
  • Track and maintain monthly customer quality metrics and supplier performance ratings
  • Process customer RMAs and final rejection dispositions
  • Develop and maintain customer-specific quality procedures and process improvements

Advanced Inspection & Quality Analysis

  • Perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9102 standards
  • Support inspection teams with technical interpretation of specifications and blueprint requirements
  • Conduct hands-on inspections using precision measuring equipment including:
    • Micrometers
    • Calipers
    • Height gauges
    • Optical comparators
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities
  • Process and close quality notifications and customer claims
  • Generate reports related to rejection rates, audit findings, and DPPM metrics
  • Support final inspection activities as needed

System Compliance & Audit Support

  • Coordinate and support third-party, supplier, and customer audits
  • Evaluate audit findings and implement corrective action response plans
  • Maintain compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, AS5553, AS6174, and related aerospace standards
  • Partner cross-functionally to resolve systemic quality issues and improve documentation integrity
  • Lead or support supplier corrective action initiatives

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform quality-related work independently and within established deadlines
  • Communicate professionally with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Collaborate effectively across departments while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 2–5 years of direct aerospace fastener industry experience
  • 2+ years of quality inspection, auditing, and testing experience
  • Experience implementing corrective action programs and quality improvement initiatives
  • Strong understanding of aerospace quality systems and compliance standards

Preferred Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive quality inspection experience within:
    • Aerospace
    • Medical Device
    • Industrial Manufacturing
  • Experience conducting customer and supplier audits
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • GD&T
    • Blueprint interpretation
    • Quality documentation review
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, QMS platforms, and Microsoft Excel/Power BI
  • Familiarity with SAE standards and customer-specific compliance requirements

Preferred Certifications

  • AS9100 Internal Auditor Certification
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Quality Auditor (CQA)
  • Delegated Source Inspector certification a plus
  • Six Sigma certification highly desirable


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Warehouse and supplier/customer site environments
  • Ability to lift up to 30–50 lbs. as needed
  • Ability to perform physical inspections throughout the facility
  • Up to 25% travel may be required for supplier/customer audits
  • Exposure to moderate warehouse noise and moving equipment
