This role provides strategic direction and hands-on operational oversight for installation, modernization, troubleshooting, and commissioning of high- and low-power terminal equipment, including crane systems and advanced control platforms such as TMEIC. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and union maintenance crews to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical terminal equipment across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of all terminal equipment projects from concept through completion.
  • Establish clear project execution strategies that align technical requirements, safety standards, and operational objectives.
  • Direct project execution involving ILWU mechanics, technicians, and engineering personnel, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
  • Provide operational oversight during installation, modernization, troubleshooting, and commissioning of terminal equipment systems, including TMEIC and other advanced control systems.
  • Oversee work on a wide range of terminal equipment, handling both high-power and low-power electrical and automation systems.
  • Manage projects involving various crane technologies, such as TMAC-based cranes and Siemens-based cranes, ensuring proper integration and performance.
  • Lead and support equipment troubleshooting activities at all terminal locations as needed, acting as a key technical escalation point.
  • Coordinate bid preparation and project proposals for terminal equipment initiatives, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Ensure that all project activities comply with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.
  • Mentor and guide engineering and technical staff, promoting best practices in terminal equipment operations, automation, and electromechanical systems.
  • Collaborate with project controls and engineering teams to monitor project progress, manage risks, and drive continuous improvement in equipment reliability and performance.

Essential Skills

  • Deep knowledge of electrical engineering and automation, including both high-power and low-power systems.
  • Experience working with crane technologies, such as TMAC-based cranes and Siemens crane systems.
  • Proficiency in PLC-based control systems and automation platforms used in terminal environments.
  • Electromechanical expertise, with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues across electrical, mechanical, and control disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, including mechanics, technicians, and engineering personnel, in a union environment.
  • Proven track record in troubleshooting terminal equipment and providing technical support across multiple locations.
  • Strong project planning and coordination skills, with the ability to establish and execute effective project strategies.
  • Ability to prepare and review bids and technical proposals related to terminal equipment projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • background in automation engineering or Senior electrical engineering in industrial or port terminal settings.
  • Familiarity with project controls practices, including scheduling, cost tracking, and risk management for equipment projects.
  • Experience collaborating with specialized drive and control system engineers and union maintenance crews.
  • Comfort working across multiple disciplines (electrical, mechanical, automation) in a terminal or heavy industrial environment.

Why Work Here?

You join a stable, family-owned organization known for strong employee loyalty and very low turnover, offering competitive compensation and the opportunity to work on technically challenging, high-impact projects. The culture emphasizes long-term relationships, hands-on leadership, and collaboration across engineering and union maintenance teams, providing a supportive environment for professional growth and the chance to shape critical terminal operations.
