We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support project-based accounting activities for a growing team in South San Jose, California. This role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records across active jobs, project cost accounting, change management and revenue recognition. The ideal candidate brings accounting experience within construction or a general contractor environment, along with a collaborative mindset and a willingness to learn.
Responsibilities:
• Provide weekly cash flow analysis detailing actual v forecast
• Examine Accounts Payable, and Receivable Aging to review short/long term cash forecasts
• Review Labor compliance, including Certified Payroll Reporting and job specific local hiring requirements and apprentice ration requirements.
• Partner with operations and project teams to issue customer invoices promptly and follow up on outstanding balances to support healthy cash flow.
• Manage Month-End, Quarter-End, Journal Entries, Ensure JE policy is following appropriate documentation
• Knowledge of Monthly workers Comp Audits.
• Produce regular reports covering accounts receivable, contract status, job cost performance, and other financial metrics for management review.
• At least 3+years of experience in accounting, finance, or project accounting roles.
• Background in construction, contracting, or another project-driven business environment is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of job costing, project cost tracking, and budget-to-actual analysis.
• Experience handling accounts receivable, client billing, and contract review responsibilities.
• Familiarity with journal entries, general ledger activity, and financial reporting processes.
• Understanding of tax-related accounting concepts, including corporate or sales tax exposure, is beneficial.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Strong communication skills, adaptability, and a team-oriented approach with the ability to learn quickly.
