Job DescriptionJob Title: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

Job Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to provide rehabilitative and restorative therapy services that enhance patients' independence, safety, and quality of life. This role focuses on implementing treatment plans, monitoring patient progress, and supporting individuals with complex physical, cognitive, and functional needs, particularly within frail and elderly populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement occupational therapy treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist
  • Assist patients in improving their ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) and functional tasks
  • Monitor patient progress and communicate observations to the Occupational Therapist and care team
  • Utilize therapeutic exercises, activities, and adaptive equipment to support rehabilitation goals
  • Document treatments, patient responses, and progress in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care
  • Educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic techniques and home exercise programs as appropriate

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program
  • Valid California Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) License or proof of license eligibility
  • Minimum of two (2) years of OTA experience in a clinical setting serving frail or elderly populations
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to treat elderly patients with complex medical and functional needs

Preferred Experience:

  • Outpatient rehabilitation experience
  • Acute care experience
  • Inpatient rehabilitation experience
  • Skilled nursing facility (SNF) experience

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong understanding of geriatric rehabilitation principles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary care team
  • Strong organizational and documentation abilities
  • Commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care

Required Certification:

  • California Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) License
