Job DescriptionAssembly Technician

Assembly Technician

Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Assembly Technician to build, test and document precision mechanical and electromechanical assemblies. The role focuses on accurate component assembly (including column assemblies), use of metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators), adherence to BOMs and cleanroom protocols, and diagnosing and resolving assembly issues to meet quality and production targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform precision assembly of mechanical and electromechanical components and complete subassemblies, including column assembly and alignment, according to engineering drawings and BOMs.
  • Use hand tools and torque wrenches to install fasteners to specified torque values and verify proper fit and function.
  • Measure and inspect parts and assemblies using metrology tools such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators and other precision instruments; record measurements and maintain inspection records.
  • Follow cleanroom procedures and gowning protocols when required; maintain a clean, organized work area to prevent contamination and protect product integrity.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and BOMs to ensure correct part usage and assembly sequence.
  • Troubleshoot assembly and functional issues, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and escalate complex problems to engineering when necessary.
  • Perform functional tests, basic electrical checks, and final inspection to verify assemblies meet quality and performance specifications.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of assembly activities, inspection results, and material usage in manufacturing records and tracking systems.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rework, improve throughput and increase product quality.
  • Assist with inventory control and part kitting to ensure components and BOM items are available for scheduled builds.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or associate degree in manufacturing, mechanical technology or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of hands-on assembly experience in precision manufacturing, medical devices, electronics, or similar industries; experience with column assemblies a plus.
  • Proven experience using metrology tools: calipers, micrometers, indicators and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Familiarity with torque tools and the ability to apply and verify torque to specified values.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment and knowledge of contamination control practices and gowning procedures.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose mechanical and assembly-related issues.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and the ability to work with small components and tight tolerances.
  • Good documentation skills and comfort using electronic records or manufacturing execution systems (MES).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams; willingness to follow safety and quality procedures.
