Music Academy Instructor - Piano

Reports to: Director of Extended Day and Enrichment Programs

Primary Responsibilities: Provide private, on-campus music lessons for elementary and middle school students at The Hamlin School.

Classification: Part-time/Non-exempt

Work Schedule: Looking for 2-5 days/week commitment. Instructors teach afterschool from 3:30-6:00pm Monday-Thursday and/or 2:30-6:00pm Fridays beginning in early September for the 2026-2027 school year.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:


Position Overview:

The Hamlin School is seeking experienced and enthusiastic music instructors for our afterschool Music Academy. This vibrant program serves over 100 students in grades 1–8, offering one-on-one lessons in piano, guitar, violin, voice, drums, and more. Lessons are held on campus and are scheduled in 30-, 45-, or 60-minute blocks. The School handles all student registration and billing logistics.


Music Academy instructors play an important role in nurturing students’ musical growth, self-confidence, and creativity. Instructors are expected to foster a supportive learning environment that emphasizes joy, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for music.


Job Qualifications:

• Prior experience with private music instruction for elementary and middle school students

• Passion for music education and ability to build rapport with individual students

• Strong punctuality, time management and organizational skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Bachelor's degree in music or a related field (preferred)


Work authorization requirements:

  • Clear the Department of Justice background screening (Livescan)
  • Authorized to work in the United States (I-9)
  • Provide health (TB) clearance (update every 4 years)
