Job DescriptionDirect Counsel is seeking a Labor & Employment Associate to join a growing and sophisticated employment law practice in Los Angeles. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking to work on a broad range of employment counseling and litigation matters while collaborating with a nationally recognized practice group.
The ideal candidate will have 4–8 years of experience handling employment litigation and counseling matters, including wage and hour class actions and single-plaintiff employment disputes.
Responsibilities
- Advise employers on a wide range of employment law issues and workplace compliance matters
- Defend clients in wage and hour class actions, PAGA matters, and employment litigation
- Handle single-plaintiff claims involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination
- Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, memoranda, and other litigation-related filings
- Take and defend depositions
- Participate in trial preparation and trial proceedings
- Collaborate closely with clients and attorneys on litigation strategy and risk management initiatives
Qualifications
- 4–8 years of labor and employment law experience
- Significant experience in employment counseling and litigation
- Experience handling wage and hour class actions and single-plaintiff employment claims
- Superior legal research, writing, and motion drafting skills
- Experience taking and defending depositions
- Trial and/or substantial trial preparation experience
- Restrictive covenant and traditional labor experience is a plus
- Strong academic credentials and communication skills
- Active California Bar admission required
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $215,000 – $255,000
- 4x4 Hybrid Model (in-office Wednesdays plus four additional in-office days per month)
