Location: San Francisco, CA 94128

Salary: $110,000–$120,000

Position Summary

The Facility Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing facility maintenance, capital improvement projects, equipment reliability, and regulatory compliance for a large food production and aviation services facility. This role leads engineering and construction initiatives, manages vendor relationships, ensures compliance with food safety and workplace regulations, and serves as the technical expert for site leadership.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong project management experience, a background in facility or industrial maintenance, and a passion for driving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance & Capital Projects

  • Lead facility construction, renovation, and infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Manage capital expenditure (CapEx) projects from planning through completion, ensuring projects remain on schedule and within budget.
  • Evaluate, prioritize, and oversee facility and equipment repair and replacement projects.
  • Coordinate engineering assessments for facility upgrades, emergency repairs, and operational improvements.
  • Partner with internal maintenance teams and outside vendors to maintain facility equipment and fleet reliability.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for maintenance, engineering, and facility-related initiatives.

Vendor & Regulatory Compliance

  • Build and manage relationships with contractors, suppliers, and service providers.
  • Conduct vendor evaluations and audits to ensure quality, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage permitting activities and coordinate with regulatory agencies throughout project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable USDA, FDA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, state, and local regulations.
  • Oversee environmental compliance programs, including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) requirements.

Quality, Safety & Operational Excellence

  • Ensure maintenance activities support food safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities, equipment, and maintenance practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, Lean Manufacturing principles, HACCP, employee safety programs, and quality systems.
  • Implement corrective actions to resolve safety, quality, and compliance issues.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop the maintenance team to achieve operational and professional goals.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and alignment with business objectives.
  • Support employee performance management, training, and career development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage departmental budgets and monitor expenditures to achieve financial targets.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field preferred.
  • 5–7 years of experience in maintenance, engineering, facilities management, manufacturing, food production, or a similar operational environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing capital projects, construction initiatives, and facility improvements.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, engineering principles, and facility operations.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and capital expenditures.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements, including USDA, FDA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, and applicable state and local regulations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities with the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows-based applications.

Preferred

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project management experience.
  • Experience with SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) or another Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) requirements and environmental compliance.
  • Experience supporting Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
