Position Type: Temp-to-Hire
Shift: 2nd Shift
Pay Rate: 23.00

Position Summary

A confidential aerospace and precision manufacturing client is seeking an experienced Assembler to build complex assemblies according to blueprint, work order, and customer specification requirements.

This is an advanced-level assembly position requiring a high degree of accuracy, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently with little to no supervision. The Assembly Mechanic III will be responsible for performing complex assembly work, conducting advanced inspections, troubleshooting assembly issues, and ensuring completed assemblies meet customer and quality requirements.

This role also supports training and mentoring of lower-level assembly mechanics and may assist with developing or improving assembly processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build complex mechanical assemblies according to blueprints, work instructions, job travelers, and customer specifications.
  • Perform assembly work independently with minimal or no supervision.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, clamps, rivet guns, countersinks, drills, fixtures, and other assembly equipment.
  • Perform advanced inspection checks to verify component alignment, clearance, cleanliness, fit, fastening, and overall workmanship.
  • Use inspection tools such as scales, micrometers, calipers, feeler gauges, and other measuring devices to confirm assembly requirements.
  • Troubleshoot assembly issues and make adjustments as needed to meet quality and customer specifications.
  • Read, interpret, and apply blueprint requirements, shop math, customer specifications, and production documentation.
  • Research and interpret customer requirements as needed to support assembly accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift.
  • Assist with training, mentoring, and supporting Level I and Level II assembly mechanics.
  • Provide technical support to team members when assembly or inspection questions arise.
  • Assist with the development, improvement, or validation of new assembly processes.
  • Report quality concerns, tooling issues, material problems, or process gaps to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, quality standards, and company policies.
  • Support additional assembly, inspection, or production duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of assembly experience in aerospace, precision manufacturing, mechanical assembly, or a related environment.
  • Ability to build and troubleshoot assemblies of varying complexity.
  • Strong blueprint reading and print interpretation skills.
  • Strong understanding of basic shop math.
  • Experience using hand tools and assembly tools such as clamps, rivet guns, countersinks, drills, and fixtures.
  • Experience using inspection tools such as scales, micrometers, calipers, and feeler gauges.
  • Ability to perform advanced inspection checks for alignment, clearance, cleanliness, fit, fastening, and conformance.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications and production requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and assist lower-level assembly mechanics.
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and wear required PPE.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace assembly experience.
  • Experience assembling complex mechanical components or precision assemblies.
  • Experience with riveting, drilling, countersinking, fastening, fitting, alignment, or fixture-based assembly.
  • Experience working in an AS9100, FAA-regulated, or quality-controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting process improvements or new assembly process development.
  • Experience reviewing customer specifications or technical documentation.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to carry up to 35 lbs for short distances, approximately up to 20 feet.
  • Ability to load parts into fixtures weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, grip, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements throughout the shift.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, fixtures, and inspection tools for extended periods.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with machinery, tools, noise, and production activity.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, which may include safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe shoes, or other protective equipment.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled assembler who can work independently, read prints confidently, troubleshoot complex assemblies, and produce high-quality work without constant supervision.

This person should be comfortable using assembly and inspection tools, identifying issues before they become defects, and helping train less-experienced mechanics. The strongest candidates will have aerospace or precision manufacturing experience and a strong understanding of quality, customer specifications, and advanced assembly requirements.
