You will collaborate closely with dentists and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that enhance patient outcomes. This role requires a compassionate approach to patient care, ensuring comfort and understanding throughout each visit. Ultimately, your work will contribute significantly to improving overall patient health and well-being by preventing oral health issues before they develop into more serious conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of dental anatomy, pathology, and preventive oral care.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively educate and interact with patients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a clinical dental setting.
  • Additional certifications such as Local Anesthesia or Nitrous Oxide administration, where applicable.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and dental practice management software.
  • Bilingual abilities to serve diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing teeth to remove plaque and tartar.
  • Conduct oral health assessments by examining patients for signs of gum disease, cavities, and other oral conditions.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Educate patients on effective oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and dietary recommendations.
  • Document patient care and treatment plans accurately in compliance with legal and professional standards.
  • Collaborate with dentists to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Maintain sterilization and infection control protocols to ensure a safe clinical environment.
  • Stay current with advances in dental hygiene techniques and technologies through continuing education.

Skills:

The required skills enable you to perform precise dental cleanings and assessments, ensuring patient safety and comfort during procedures. Strong communication skills are essential for educating patients on oral health and motivating them to maintain good hygiene practices. Technical proficiency with dental instruments and radiographic equipment is used daily to diagnose and treat oral conditions effectively. Preferred skills, such as experience with dental software and additional certifications, enhance your ability to provide comprehensive care and streamline clinical workflows. Together, these skills support a patient-centered approach that fosters trust, improves health outcomes, and promotes a positive clinical environment.
