Job Description

This full-time Assembly Technician role on the swing shift supports the production team in a manufacturing facility located in San Leandro, CA. The position focuses on precise mechanical assembly and thorough testing of products, ensuring they meet all documented specifications and quality standards. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and reliability in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical assembly of products in accordance with released assembly procedures and work instructions.
  • Conduct hydro testing and performance testing of products following established test procedures.
  • Verify that assembled products comply with all released product and component documentation and specifications.
  • Disassemble field-returned products for analysis and prepare product failure analysis reports as directed.
  • Repair products based on findings from failure analysis and instructions from supervisors or engineering.
  • Label and package products in accordance with approved packaging and labeling procedures.
  • Operate forklifts and pallet jacks to safely load and unload trucks and move materials to and from pallet racks as required.
  • Carry out general shop duties such as organizing work areas, handling materials, and supporting production activities as assigned.
  • Cross-train in alternate shops and support other production areas as needed to meet operational demands.
  • Use basic gaging tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions and ensure product quality.
  • Read and interpret machine and assembly drawings to complete assigned tasks accurately.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and use common hand tools and power tools properly and safely.
  • Complete all other projects and duties as assigned by leadership to support production and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in non-electronic mechanical equipment assembly.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of product and material testing requirements and processes.
  • Proven ability to perform mechanical assembly using common hand tools and power tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general assembly procedures, including bearings, press fits, and hand tooling.
  • Certification to operate a forklift.
  • Proficiency in the use of basic gaging tools such as micrometers and calipers.
  • High mechanical aptitude with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to read and comprehend product documentation, including bills of materials and related technical documents.
  • Ability to use machine and assembly drawings to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Excellent manual dexterity suitable for detailed mechanical assembly work.
  • Basic computer literacy to access and follow electronic procedures and documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Self-starter who can work under pressure while staying focused on quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Reliable, quality-focused, and able to interpret directions and stay on task with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Journeyman training in a mechanical trade is a plus.
  • Manual machining skills are a plus.
  • Experience working in a production or assembly line environment.
  • Familiarity with general labor tasks within a manufacturing or shop setting.
  • Willingness to cross-train in alternate shops and learn new processes.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing and shop environment on a swing shift schedule. You will work around mechanical equipment, production lines, and testing stations, using common hand tools, power tools, forklifts, pallet jacks, and basic gaging tools such as micrometers and calipers. The work involves standing for extended periods, performing repetitive mechanical assembly tasks, and lifting up to 40 pounds unassisted. You will use machine and assembly drawings, follow released procedures, and operate within a structured production setting that emphasizes safety, organization, and adherence to documented processes. Appropriate shop-appropriate attire and adherence to safety policies are expected at all times.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Leandro, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
