We are seeking an experienced Assistant Superintendent for a full-time golf course maintenance leadership opportunity. This role is ideal for a turfgrass and agronomy professional who enjoys leading field operations, maintaining high-quality playing conditions, and supporting a well-run, service-focused golf course environment. The Assistant Superintendent will oversee daily maintenance activities across greens, tees, fairways, cart paths, landscaped areas, irrigation systems, and equipment operations. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-performing grounds team, support long-term course conditioning goals, and step into greater responsibility when needed. Located in North San Diego, Full-time, direct hire opportunity, $95,000 to $105,000 per year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and supervising daily golf course maintenance operations, including greens, tees, fairways, cart paths, and landscaped areas.
- Lead and support grounds team members, including assistant staff, foremen, equipment operators, and maintenance personnel.
- Oversee turfgrass health, landscaping, irrigation, drainage, pump systems, water management, fertilization, and pesticide application activities.
- Train staff on safe and proper equipment operation, maintenance practices, chemical handling, and club procedures.
- Coordinate with mechanics on equipment repairs and readiness to ensure efficient daily operations.
- Support budgeting, labor planning, materials management, safety compliance, and overall maintenance standards.
Qualifications:
- 3 to 5 years of relevant golf course maintenance, turfgrass management, agronomy, landscaping, or facilities maintenance experience.
- Bilingual Spanish skills preferred.
- Strong knowledge of golf course agronomy, turfgrass care, horticulture, soil conditioners, fertilizers, pest control, herbicides, and irrigation systems.
- Valid California Qualified Applicator License or Certificate, QAL or QAC, preferred or willing to obtain within 6 months.
- Ability to supervise teams, prioritize daily work, resolve issues, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Knowledge of OSHA, state, and federal safety guidelines related to grounds maintenance and chemical applications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software.
- Prior experience in private club, resort, golf course, or high-end property maintenance environments preferred.
- Experience supporting maintenance budgets, staff development, irrigation troubleshooting, and equipment readiness preferred.
