Surf Camp Instructor
POSITION TYPE

DESCRIPTION
Provide surfing instruction and facilitate beach activities for the attending surf camp participants with Autism.
RESPONSIBILITIES
•Knowledge of and the ability to demonstrate skills in surfing. Provide instruction for varying ages.
•Begin and end the day on time and prepared. Remain to answer parent questions and clean up supplies.
• Actively teach your camper in the water, give clear directions, and provide adequate demonstrations.
•Educate participants on proper technique and promote safety. Seek every opportunity to encourage and motivate.
•Maintain a clean area and secure campers' belongings.
•Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards and that materials and equipment are safe.
•Tend to accidents or emergencies in accordance with accident/incident protocols and/or emergency action plans.
•Attend mandatory meetings as scheduled.
•Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service.
*Monitor changing weather and ocean conditions and make appropriate decisions to ensure the safety of students.
•Complete additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
•18 years of age or older.
•Ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm.
•Ability to positively interact with the public.
•Knowledge/experience working with individuals with autism.
•Current CPR/AED. Lifeguarding certification required. Can apply without this training, but it must be completed before July 1st. The Autism Society will pay for this training if you do not already have it.
•Ocean competence and experience required. Ability to perform an ocean swim test. Must be comfortable swimming in breaking surf. The work environment will involve exposure to salt water, cold water, sun, wind, rain, weather, sand, seaweed, sea grass, ocean currents, sea creatures, and other outdoor elements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
*Ability to lift equipment and to lift an average-sized child to an adult.
*Ability to be in the ocean with temperatures ranging from 63*-75*.
•Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
Schedule and Compensation
•Pay range: $22.00-$25.00/ hour.
•Background check required.
• Part-time position that will require approximately 20- 23 hours per week, available during summer season.
•Dates: July 6th-August 13th, 2026.
