Job Title: CNC Programmer

Job Description

This role focuses on programming, setting up, and running 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines in an aerospace manufacturing environment. You will create and optimize CNC programs, oversee machinists, and ensure precision machining of titanium, steel, and aluminum components to meet stringent aerospace quality standards. The position requires strong technical expertise with CNC controls, CAD/CAM software, and inspection tools, as well as the ability to troubleshoot machining issues and support continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Program 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines for aerospace components using Mastercam and Camplete.
  • Set up and run CNC milling machines, including Mikron, Doosan, Mori, and Fadal equipment.
  • Use Heidenhain and Fanuc controls to load, verify, and optimize CNC programs.
  • Interpret blueprints and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Select and apply optimal cutting techniques, speeds, and feeds for titanium, steel, and aluminum.
  • Utilize micrometers, calipers, gauges, edge finders, indicators, and probes to verify part dimensions and machine setup.
  • Analyze machining processes to distinguish between machine deviation, cutter issues, and holding problems, and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform and support First Article Inspection to validate initial production parts.
  • Oversee machinists on the shop floor, providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to job travelers and process documentation.
  • Review and work with job travelers, material status sheets, and vantage systems to track job progress and material flow.
  • Apply knowledge of software collection and Critical to Quality (CTQ) characteristics to maintain consistent quality.
  • Document and maintain accurate records related to programs, setups, inspections, and process changes.
  • Identify and solve routine machining and programming problems and demonstrate advanced problem-solving capabilities when needed.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and on-time delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO9001, AS9100, and NADCAP-related processes as applicable to machining operations.

Essential Skills

  • 6–8 years of experience in CNC programming, setup, and operation, preferably in an aerospace environment.
  • Proficiency in 3-axis and 5-axis CNC programming for milling operations.
  • Hands-on experience programming, setting up, and running Mikron, Doosan, Mori, and Fadal CNC milling machines.
  • Strong working knowledge of Heidenhain and Fanuc CNC controls.
  • Proficiency with Mastercam for CNC programming.
  • Experience analyzing and optimizing CNC programs using Camplete.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Proficiency using precision measurement tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Experience using edge finders, indicators, and probes for accurate machine setup and part inspection.
  • Knowledge of optimal cutting techniques, speeds, and feeds for titanium, steel, and aluminum.
  • Ability to distinguish machine deviation from cutter or holding problems and take corrective action.
  • Experience performing or supporting First Article Inspection.
  • Familiarity with CTQ (Critical to Quality) requirements and related documentation.
  • Experience working with job travelers, material status sheets, and vantage or similar tracking systems.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Ability to solve routine problems independently and demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Back ground in machining and mills, with a strong understanding of CNC machining processes.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment and familiarity with continuous improvement practices.
  • Comfort working within ISO9001, AS9100, and NADCAP-certified environments.
  • Ability to oversee and support machinists, providing technical guidance and mentoring.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality precision parts.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with engineering, quality, and production teams.
