About the Role
PG&E is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to develop apprenticeship training programs for Power Generation operations. This role will focus on creating instructor-led, field-based, and blended learning solutions for highly technical, hands-on work environments while partnering closely with subject matter experts and program stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop instructor-led, field-based, and blended learning programs for utility apprenticeships
- Conduct task analyses for complex, high-risk operational roles
- Create student guides, facilitator guides, assessments, simulations, videos, and scenario-based learning activities
- Develop learning objectives and course structures aligned with safety and operational requirements
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather, validate, and refine technical content
- Participate in project milestone meetings, pilot sessions, and train-the-trainer activities
- Apply instructional design methodologies and company standards to ensure high-quality deliverables
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of instructional design experience developing training for complex, hands-on technical environments
- Bachelor's degree in Adult Education, Instructional Design, or a related field
- Experience designing instructor-led, virtual, and web-based training programs
- Strong knowledge of instructional design methodologies such as ADDIE
- Experience partnering with SMEs and translating technical content into engaging learning materials
- Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and project organization skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in utilities, hydroelectric operations, mechanical engineering, machining, or apprenticeship programs
- Experience with eLearning tools such as Articulate, Captivate, QuestionMark, or Author-It
- Graphic design or multimedia development experience
- Teaching or facilitation experience
- Previous PG&E Academy experience
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field
