Job Description Plant Operations Director — Precast Concrete Manufacturing

Compensation: $210,000 (DOE)

A day in the life

You start your morning walking the Rialto, CA plant floor, greeting supervisors from Production, Maintenance, and Quality. By 9 a.m., you’re reviewing safety metrics and yesterday’s throughput, aligning the team on productivity targets and cost goals. Late morning is for coaching department leaders, clarifying expectations, and removing roadblocks. After lunch, you review budget-to-actual performance, adjust resources, and greenlight a process improvement pilot. You wrap the day confirming distribution schedules, ensuring customers receive quality product on time, and preparing a brief for executive leadership.

Role overview

Lead and optimize all operations at Thompson Pipe Group – Los Angeles (Rialto). You will craft and execute strategies that elevate safety, quality, delivery, and cost efficiency; set policy; and drive accountability so leadership decisions translate into sustained results.

What you’ll lead

  • End-to-end plant operations for manufacturing and production, including distribution, maintenance, quality assurance, and safety.
  • Development of functional strategies, policies, procedures, and training that underpin a strong operating system.
  • Performance management: define KPIs, establish reliable data collection, analyze productivity, and set/meet revenue and cost targets; present findings and recommendations.
  • People leadership: set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and build capability through development plans; evaluate performance and ensure continuity.
  • Financial stewardship: create and manage budgets; analyze accounting and financial data; own P&L performance and cost control.
  • Growth initiatives: enhance company image, identify opportunities, and support overall expansion objectives.
  • Follow-through and verification to ensure decisions convert to measurable operational outcomes; apply corrective actions when needed.
  • Collaboration with EHS, HR, Maintenance, Logistics, and other support teams.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Experience you’ll bring

  • 3+ years of operations management in a manufacturing setting, including leadership of teams, product, resources, budgets, change, and quality.
  • Industrial manufacturing background; construction/building materials experience preferred.
  • Commercial acumen.
  • Comfort working with all levels up to the C-suite, both collaboratively and in a representative capacity.
  • Track record leading large, multi-function operations through clear structure and effective delegation via frontline leaders.
  • Proven ability to instill ownership for product quality, set clear expectations, enforce accountability, and build a culture that proactively surfaces and resolves quality issues.

Skills that set you up for success

  • Broad command of operations, sales, and project management.
  • Lead-by-example leadership and exceptional written/verbal communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Budgeting and financial leadership, including operating budgets, P&L analysis, cost management, and data-driven decisions.
  • High organizational discipline: prioritize, juggle multiple initiatives, and ensure rigorous follow-through.
  • Delivery management across all phases of the product/project lifecycle.
  • Strong ownership, reliability, and consistent execution.
  • Collaborative interpersonal style.
  • Meticulous attention to detail protecting quality, safety, financial results, and customer trust.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and Visio (or similar tools).

What this is (and isn’t)

This is a manufacturing leadership role in precast concrete pipe—not a warehouse job.
