About the Role
David Hall Masonry, Inc. is seeking an experienced, strategic construction professional to serve as our Director of Preconstruction & Business Development. In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee our estimating department, drive profitable revenue growth, and align preconstruction strategies directly with field operations.
You will act as the essential bridge between Business Development, Estimating, Operations, Accounting, and Executive Leadership—ensuring awarded projects are not only won, but positioned for seamless execution, procurement efficiency, and long-term profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Development
- Lead DHM’s work acquisition strategy, pipeline management, and market expansion efforts.
- Build, maintain, and leverage strategic customer and industry relationships.
- Partner with the CEO and Director of Operations (DOO) to forecast workload, evaluate market conditions, and guide long-term business planning.
Estimating & Preconstruction Oversight
- Direct, mentor, and manage the Estimating Department, ensuring high-quality, timely proposal submissions.
- Lead Go/No-Go pursuit decisions, assign bid opportunities, and review and approve project estimates.
- Standardize preconstruction processes, evaluate new construction technology (CRM, OST, Procore), and drive continuous improvement across departments.
Operational Transition & Procurement
- Lead seamless handoffs from bid awards to project startup, ensuring critical assumptions, schedules, and risk factors are effectively communicated to field leadership.
- Partner with Operations and suppliers to lead major material buyout planning, leverage purchasing power, and secure favorable pricing and schedules.
- Collaborate with Operations and Accounting to streamline project closeouts, retention collections, warranty administration, and post-project 'lessons learned' reviews.
Authority & Decision-Making
- Prioritize bidding activities and deploy estimating resources effectively.
- Establish and enforce departmental standards, procedures, and quality expectations.
- Recommend staffing, hiring, coaching, and performance management initiatives within the estimating department.
- Shape procurement strategies, technology implementations, and target market opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Industry Experience: 8+ years in the construction industry with at least 4+ years in a direct leadership or managerial role.
- Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of preconstruction, estimating, material buyouts, risk management, and project execution.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with OST (On-Screen Takeoff), Procore, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Leadership & Alignment: Proven ability to lead organizational change, manage high-performing teams, and build consensus across interdisciplinary departments.
- Business Acumen: Demonstrated track record of balancing revenue growth with operational capacity and margin expectations.
