AHS Staffing is seeking a travel nurse RN LDRP - Labor Delivery Recovery & Postpartum for a travel nursing job in San Luis Obispo, California.

⏰ Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours/Week
📅 Schedule: Every Other Weekend • First to Float

👶 Unit Details

  • 9 Labor & Delivery Rooms
  • 4 Postpartum Beds
  • No Dedicated OB Triage Unit
  • Approximately 55 births per month
  • Family-centered birth program with individualized birth plans

👩‍⚕️ Patient Ratios

The unit follows AWHONN staffing guidelines.

Typical assignments include:

  • Labor: 1:1–1:2
  • Delivery: 1:1
  • Postpartum Couplet Care: Per AWHONN standards

✅ Required Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • 2 years of Labor & Delivery/Postpartum experience
  • Previous travel experience preferred

No First-Time Travelers

  • Labor & Delivery

  • High-Risk Deliveries
  • Fetal Monitoring
  • Circulating Cesarean Sections
  • Recovery
  • Newborn Care

Common Patient Population

  • Pregnancies 34 weeks and above
  • High-risk deliveries
  • Vaginal deliveries
  • Cesarean deliveries
  • Family-centered births
  • Patients with detailed birth plans

The facility places a strong emphasis on respecting and following patient birth plans whenever clinically appropriate.

Certifications Required

  • ✅ California RN License
  • ✅ BLS
  • ✅ ACLS
  • ✅ NRP
  • ✅ AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring
  • ✅ COVID Vaccination Required

Equipment / Technology

  • Cerner EMR
  • FetaLink Electronic Fetal Monitoring
  • Philips Telemetry
  • Hospital-provided scrubs

Physician & Support Coverage

  • OB Physicians On Call
  • Neonatologist On Call
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
  • One OB Tech on Days
  • One OB Tech on Nights

Additional Support:

  • No IV Team
  • Pharmacy available until 10:00 PM

Things to Know Before Applying\n✔ No First-Time Travelers\n\nPrevious travel nursing experience is preferred, and first-time travelers will not be considered.\n\n✔ Must Work Both L&D and Postpartum\n\nThis is not a Labor-only assignment.\n\nTravelers float between:\n\nLabor & Delivery\nRecovery\nPostpartum\n\nCandidates must be experienced and comfortable working both areas.\n\n✔ C-Section Circulating Required\n\nAll travelers must independently circulate cesarean deliveries.\n\n✔ High-Risk OB Experience Preferred\n\nThe unit manages:\n\nHigh-risk pregnancies\nC-sections\nPatients 34 weeks gestation and above\n✔ Family-Centered Birth Culture\n\nBirth plans are highly respected, and nurses should be comfortable supporting individualized labor preferences while maintaining patient safety.\n\n✔ Floating\nFirst to Float\nFloats between Labor & Delivery and Postpartum\n✔ Weekend Requirement\nEvery Other Weekend\n✔ Holiday Requirement\n\nHoliday rotation with permanent staff.
