This position ensures each built-to-order system meets strict performance specifications before shipment by performing detailed quality checks, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and collaborating closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applications teams. The role also contributes to continuous improvement by refining test procedures, supporting new product introductions, and helping maintain high overall product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Align infrared lasers and calibrate atomic force microscopy systems to meet defined performance specifications.
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance testing on AFM, IR laser, and combined AFM/IR systems.
  • Run standardized tests to verify system performance and document results accurately.
  • Calibrate, rework, and adjust units as needed to meet delivery timelines and performance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues identified during testing and drive timely resolution.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Research and Development, and Applications teams to validate system performance and resolve complex issues.
  • Collaborate with assemblers and engineers to improve build and test processes and enhance overall product quality.
  • Follow existing test procedures and update them as needed to ensure potential quality concerns are identified before shipment.
  • Prepare microscopes for shipment, ensuring systems are configured, tested, and documented according to requirements.
  • Support new product introductions by participating in test development, validation, and feedback activities.
  • Train team members on test, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures to promote consistent practices.
  • Initiate IBQ/NCMR documentation when nonconformances or quality issues arise and support follow-up actions.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as required to support team and organizational goals.

Essential Skills

  • 2–4 years of experience in a manufacturing or test environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or Math, or an Associate’s degree with relevant electro/mechanical experience.

  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including diagnosing issues in electronic assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Experience using test equipment for troubleshooting and performance verification.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in electronics and test environments.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning probe microscopy, or FTIR is a plus.
  • Prior exposure to high-precision scientific instruments or analytical equipment is beneficial.
  • Experience participating in or supporting new product introductions is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with IBQ/NCMR or similar nonconformance and quality reporting processes is helpful.
  • Strong communication skills to train team members and document procedures clearly.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with an interest in refining test and build processes.

Work Environment
