Chemical Process Technician
Job Description
The Process Technician plays a key role in the manufacture of specialty chemicals and nanomaterials in a fast-paced, dynamic production environment. This position focuses on material synthesis and manufacturing, working closely with senior scientists and engineers to produce high-quality nanomaterial-based products. The technician follows detailed procedures, supports quality control activities, and contributes to process improvements that directly impact the company’s product line and growth.
Responsibilities
- Run manufacturing operations to produce nanomaterials in accordance with established production plans and procedures.
- Operate purification, blending, filtering, and other related process equipment following detailed standard operating procedures.
- Follow precise instructions for the manufacture of high-quality nanomaterial-based products, ensuring consistency and reliability.
- Assist with material handling, packaging, and labeling while adhering to detailed operating parameters and collecting relevant QC/QA data.
- Assist with the safe handling of hazardous chemicals and gases, complying with all safety guidelines and protocols.
- Provide input to the production team on process, quality, and capacity improvements to enhance efficiency and product performance.
- Perform routine equipment cleaning and basic maintenance tasks to ensure reliable and safe operation of production equipment.
- Exhibit and promote safe working practices and strong housekeeping standards throughout the facility.
- Maintain clear and accurate production records, data logs, and observations related to materials and processes.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned to support production, quality, and operational goals.
Essential Skills
- Degree in Science or a related field, with a minimum of 0–2 years of experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or process-oriented environment.
- Basic understanding of chemistry, chemical handling, and material synthesis.
- Ability to safely handle chemicals, including hazardous substances and gases, in accordance with safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence in following standard operating procedures and manufacturing instructions.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to record data, label samples, and document observations meticulously and clearly.
- Effective communication skills for working within a production team and a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift and handle weights up to 50 lbs and repeatedly move approximately 35 lb drums throughout the workday.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment such as reactors, temperature controllers, and mixers is a plus.
- Experience with reactor blending and processing is a plus.
- Interest and experience in the manufacture of chemicals and materials, particularly specialty nanomaterials.
- Strong passion for working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Ability to provide constructive input on process optimization, quality improvement, and capacity enhancements.
Work Environment
This role is based in a production and laboratory setting focused on manufacturing specialty nanomaterials and transparent conductive films. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The environment involves regular handling of chemicals, operation of reactors and related process equipment, and frequent lifting and moving of approximately 35 lb drums multiple times per day. Team members wear full personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators as required, and work under strict safety and housekeeping standards. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hayward, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.11 - $33.96/hr.
