Job Title: Lead Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Lead Maintenance Technician plays a key role in maintaining building systems and manufacturing equipment while also planning and coordinating maintenance activities. This position combines hands-on repair work with preventive maintenance scheduling, coordination of external service providers, and oversight of hazardous waste handling and disposal. The role may also provide day-to-day guidance to another maintenance technician to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations in a composite manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic building repairs, including lighting, plumbing, ventilation, and general facility upkeep.
  • Coordinate and work with outside repair companies when specialized or larger-scale repairs are needed.
  • Verify that all contracted work is completed safely, correctly, and in accordance with company standards.
  • Carry out basic maintenance and minor repairs on manufacturing equipment such as autoclaves, presses, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and other machine shop equipment.
  • Contact external repair personnel for complex or major equipment repairs as required.
  • Support production by keeping equipment operational so that manufacturing schedules are maintained.
  • Plan and set up regular preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and building systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance tasks and ensure they are completed on time.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work performed, including repairs, inspections, and preventive activities.
  • Identify recurring equipment or system issues and recommend improvements to maintenance processes or methods.
  • Collect, label, store, and arrange for the disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with company procedures and safety rules.
  • Maintain required documentation related to hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements related to maintenance and hazardous materials.
  • Provide direction and day-to-day guidance to other assigned maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Prioritize maintenance tasks and determine the order in which work should be completed.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and production staff to schedule maintenance in a way that minimizes disruption to operations.
  • Perform occasional janitorial duties as needed to support overall facility upkeep.
  • Work assigned schedule of Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and remain comfortable working overtime when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary to support the safe and efficient operation of the facility.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3–5 years of maintenance experience in a factory, shop, or industrial setting.
  • Hands-on maintenance skills with mechanical systems, including troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
  • Experience working with equipment such as autoclaves, presses, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and other machine shop equipment.
  • Ability to plan maintenance work, organize tasks, and maintain basic maintenance records.
  • Comfort using basic computer programs, including email and simple tracking tools.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, or related systems.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 25–50 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to work safely around machinery and in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights and comfortably use ladders when needed.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • U.S. Person status as defined under ITAR/export control regulations (citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual).
  • Good communication skills to interact effectively with supervisors, production staff, and external service providers.
  • Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to stepping up to meet company expectations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a lead or supervisory maintenance role.
  • Experience working in machine shop or composite manufacturing facilities.
  • Electrical, mechanical, HVAC, pneumatic, or hydraulic maintenance experience.
  • Experience handling hazardous materials or hazardous waste.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple maintenance tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working overtime when operational needs require it.

Work Environment

The role is based at an industrial manufacturing site focused on composite production and machine shop operations. You will work around equipment such as autoclaves, presses, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and other industrial machinery. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with overtime as needed to support production demands. The environment requires strict adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, particularly regarding hazardous waste handling and disposal. You will work at times on ladders or elevated areas and regularly handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs. The dress code is casual and practical for a shop setting, typically including a T-shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes, with any required personal protective equipment provided according to safety policies.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Anaheim, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $36.00/hr.
