Litigation Associate
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Litigation Associate to join our litigation team and handle a diverse docket of commercial disputes. The Litigation Associate will be responsible for managing cases from intake through resolution, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, preparing for hearings and trials, and advising clients on strategy. The ideal candidate has strong experience in commercial litigation and is comfortable representing both plaintiff and defense clients in complex matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of commercial litigation matters, from intake through resolution.
- Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents with precision and timeliness.
- Plan and conduct all phases of discovery, including drafting interrogatories, requests for production, subpoenas, and taking and defending depositions.
- Develop case strategies in collaboration with partners and senior counsel; prepare witness outlines, exhibits, and trial notebooks.
- Represent clients at hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials; advocate effectively for both plaintiff and defense positions.
- Perform thorough legal research and produce clear, persuasive legal memoranda and correspondence.
- Communicate regularly with clients to provide case updates, explain options, and develop litigation strategy.
- Negotiate settlements and assist in alternative dispute resolution processes where appropriate.
- Manage case files, calendars, and deadlines; ensure compliance with court rules and billing practices.
- Mentor and supervise junior associates and paralegals, and coordinate work across the litigation team.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with the state bar.
- 4+ years of litigation experience, preferably with a focus on commercial litigation and commercial disputes.
- Experience representing both plaintiff and defense clients in civil litigation matters; courtroom and trial experience a strong plus.
- Demonstrated expertise in drafting pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and appellate filings.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and written advocacy skills.
- Strong oral advocacy and negotiation skills, with comfort appearing in court and at alternative dispute resolution forums.
- Proven ability to manage multiple matters, prioritize deadlines, and work efficiently under pressure.
- High level of professionalism, client service orientation, and collaborative team spirit.
- Familiarity with litigation technology and e-discovery tools; proficiency in case management and document-review platforms.
