Job Description
- As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for performing mechanical repairs, installations, and maintenance tasks to ensure the optimal operation of yard facilities, utilities, and production equipment. This role involves utilizing your mechanical skills across various systems, including infrastructure, production equipment, rolling stock equipment, HVAC, diesel engines, and automated equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical repairs, installations, and preventative maintenance on yard facilities, utilities, and production equipment.
- Inspect equipment to ensure safe and reliable operations.
- Use test equipment, hand tools, pneumatic tools, and other power tools to perform equipment service and repairs.
- Complete required reports and documentation, including work orders, inspection forms, discrepancy sheets, logbooks, and service forms.
- Conduct installations, repairs, and maintenance on utility distribution systems throughout the facilities.
- Repair buildings, structures, production equipment, and portable production support equipment.
- Quickly diagnose failures using mechanical knowledge.
- Complete other tasks relevant to the trade as assigned.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of mechanical maintenance experience working on pumps and piping systems, conveyors, and gearboxes.
- High school education and a trade school certificate in mechanical training or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend schematics, diagrams, piping plans, and other manufacturer-supplied documentation.
- Understanding of energy recognition, personal protective equipment, and lock/tag out procedures.
- Proficient use of measuring equipment such as tape measures, rulers, dial indicators, calipers, depth gauges, feeler gauges, etc.
- Ability to use basic hand tools and specialized tools like gear pullers, hydraulic jacks, torque wrenches, impact wrenches, etc.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Specialized training in diesel engines, automated equipment, etc. or equivalent work experience in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing systems in a production environment.
- Preferable skills include fabrication using cutting, precision measurement and alignment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, engine repair and overhaul, and equipment operation.
- Ability to work in varied whole-body positions, at heights, and in confined spaces with limited visibility.
- Strong understanding of written and verbal instructions, warning signals, and safety instructions, regulations, and warnings.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $33.00/hr.
