Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities
Education Law & Regulatory Compliance
• Monitor and interpret California and federal legislation affecting charter school operations, and
communicate implications to school leaders and Academica management
• Advise the Managing Director and Academica leadership on education law, charter school policy, and
compliance requirements
• Support schools in understanding their regulatory obligations, ensuring Academica’s service delivery
aligns with applicable law
• Coordinate with school board counsel and regulatory bodies as needed on charter renewals,
amendments, or compliance matters
Litigation & Legal Coordination
• Manage legal matters involving Academica California directly, including coordinating with outside
counsel retained by Academica when specialized expertise or representation is required
• Serve as Academica’s point of coordination with school board counsel when disputes or proceedings
involve both the school and Academica’s operations
• Maintain awareness of active legal matters across California schools and flag issues with potential
organizational impact to the Managing Director

Student Due Process & Special Education
• Provide schools and Academica staff with guidance and resources related to student discipline, due
process procedures, and compliance obligations
• Advise on special education compliance requirements under IDEA, Section 504, and applicable
California law as they relate to Academica’s operational role
• Coordinate with school board counsel on due process hearings, complaints, and appeals that require
legal representation
Employment Law & Workers’ Compensation
• Serve as Academica’s internal legal resource on employment matters, including HR policy compliance,
investigations, terminations, and employment agreements
• Manage workers’ compensation matters in coordination with HR and third-party administrators
• Advise on California labor law, FMLA, ADA accommodations, and related employment issues affecting
