Surgical Tech

Job Summary

Facilitates physician's performance of invasive and therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly monitoring the maintenance of the sterile field.

Education & Experience
• Associate Degree or Certificate of Program Completion in Surgical Technology (Required)
• Relevant acute care experience (Preferred)

Licenses & Certifications
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy (Required)
• Certified Surgery Technician (CST) certification or Tech in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) certification (Required)
• National Board of Surgical Technologists or Association of Surgical Technologists certified (Preferred)
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy (Preferred)

Key Responsibilities
• Verifies surgery to be performed with consent forms and brings patient to assigned operating room.
• Passes instruments to surgeon during procedure.
• Anticipates surgeon's needs of additional supplies.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed.
• Prepares sterile dressings.
• Secures dressings after incision closure.
