Job Description

Electrical Estimator

Type: Direct Hire (full-time employee of our client)

Location: Martinez, CA (San Francisco Bay Area) — Onsite

Salary: $70,000 – $112,000 per year, DOE

About the Role

Innovation Consulting LLC is partnered with an electrical construction contractor to recruit an Electrical Estimator for its East Bay Area commercial division. Estimating is the revenue engine of a commercial electrical contractor — bid volume, win rate, and project margin all trace back to this desk.

This is a full-ownership estimating seat, not a takeoff seat. You will carry bid packages end to end: reviewing contract and bid documents, establishing scope, pricing labor, material, equipment, and subcontract, and issuing the scope letter and proposal. The work spans hard bid, design-assist, and design-build, including conceptual budgets developed from preliminary information. You will also direct and check junior takeoff resources, and coordinate with the engineering department on design-build pursuits.

The ideal candidate estimates independently, is confident in the numbers generated, and knows where a bid actually makes or loses money. The selected candidate will be hired as a full-time employee directly with our client.

Key Responsibilities

Bid Development and Pricing

• Produce complete cost estimates covering labor, material, equipment, and subcontract scope.

• Review contract and bid documents to establish scope, site requirements, and exclusions.

• Develop conceptual and budget estimates from preliminary information for design-build pursuits.

• Prepare scope letters and proposals; complete and submit bid packages accurately and on time.

• Evaluate scope changes and price field change orders.

Margin and Value Engineering

• Develop value engineering alternatives with supporting cost deltas.

• Apply labor rates and productivity factors to establish realistic labor hours.

• Build RFQ and RFP packages for subcontractor and vendor pricing, and level quotes for scope.

• Collect and apply historical cost data to improve estimate accuracy over time.

Coordination and Team

• Direct junior and staff-level resources on takeoffs and bills of material; review and approve their work.

• Coordinate with the engineering department on design-build estimates.

• Attend walk-throughs, pre-bid meetings, and scope clarification meetings.

• Confer with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors on estimate adjustments.

• Hand off complete estimating data to project management, including takeoffs, labor hours, and special requirements.

Qualifications

Required

• Three or more years of electrical estimating experience with an electrical contractor.

• Proficiency with Accubid or comparable electrical estimating software such as ConEst, McCormick, or Trimble.

• Ability to produce a complete estimate independently, from takeoff through final bid package.

• Working knowledge of NEC, Title 24, CBC, and local codes.

• Experience preparing scope letters, proposals, and bid exclusions.

Preferred

• Experience directing or reviewing junior takeoff and estimating resources.

• Design-build, design-assist, and conceptual budget estimating.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a construction-related field.

• Familiarity with project management or document-control software.

• Familiarity with construction or financial software systems.

Salary: $70,000 – $112,000 per year, DOE

Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, and prescription; 401(k) with company match; paid vacation, holiday, and sick time; educational assistance.
