- Under the supervision of a nurse leader, independently prescribes, delegates and coordinates nursing care to the acutely ill patient and performs the nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe, therapeutic care for patients.
- Scope of practice in accordance with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics and California Nurse Practice Act Board of Registered Nurses of the State of California.
- Creates and sustains an environment that supports compassionate caring through authentic presence with the patient and family, building trusting relationships, and mobilizing the patient’s strengths and abilities toward healing.
- Collects and documents data for assigned patients according to prescribed methods.
- Interprets assessment data to determine physiological and/or psychosocial risk factors, records and reports variances from normal parameters.
- Collaborates with patient, family and healthcare team to develop individualized plan of care and implements nursing and physician orders safely.
- Uses education, experience and assessment data to prioritize nursing actions.
- Establishes nursing diagnoses, formulates written plan of care, evaluates effectiveness of interventions and revises care plans as necessary.
- Anticipates and manages rapidly changing situations, prioritizes and responds quickly to activate emergency protocols.
- Performs and documents nursing process consistent with scientific principles and hospital policy using critical thinking and nursing judgment.
- Implements medical and nursing care plans and coordinates patient care activities with nurses, physicians and Advanced Practice Providers.
- Understands team dynamics and collaborates effectively within the care team.
- Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and evidence-based practices, measuring outcomes against patient care goals and hospital or regulatory standards.
- Provides safe care and protects employees by adhering to infection control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Participates in staff meetings, professional governance councils, evaluation and standards development for nursing practice, nursing recognition and well-being activities.
- Completes all competencies, mandatory classes and educational coursework required by the Department of Nursing.
- Attains knowledge and competence reflecting current nursing practice.
- Adheres to hospital-approved policies and procedures and RN scope of practice as defined by BRN licensure.
- Compliant with ANA Code of Ethics, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and KMC Professional Practice Model.
- Monitors own practices and assists in monitoring others for patient and employee safety and compliance to standards and policies.
- Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in care of populations served by Kern Medical facilities.

- 3 years of experience.
- Knowledge/experience with Cerner EMR.
- Valid and unrestricted State of California Registered Nurse License (RN License).
- Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Heart Monitor (FHM).
- AWHONN Maternal Fetal Triage Index (MFTI).
- Possess and maintain current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
- Possess and maintain current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) card.
- Must have knowledge of advanced theory, techniques and practices of nursing; medical terminology, instruments and equipment; uses and effects of medicines and narcotics.
- Graduation from an accredited registered nursing program with a bachelor’s or associate degree preferred.

- 3 Day shifts and 1 Night shift open.
- Traveler must float and there is no block scheduling.
- 12 hours per day.
- 36 hours per week.
