POSITION SUMMARY


Klassic Kids is a licensed, fee‐based childcare program operating at multiple sites throughout the San Diego Unified

School District. This position’s first priority is ensuring the safety, security, and well‐being of all enrolled children.

Youth Leaders are the frontline staff of the Klassic Kids program, providing daily support, guidance, and leadership to

students. They offer homework assistance, lead arts and crafts activities, and use strength‐based strategies to promote

positive behavior and healthy social‐emotional development.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Facilitate individual and group activities that support child engagement and development.

● Attend all scheduled meetings, trainings, and agency functions.

● Assist the Site Director in creating activities aligned with Klassic Kids standards.

● Keep the program space clutter‐free and complete janitorial tasks as needed.

● Maintain a clean, orderly designated school area and ensure the safety, security, and well‐being of all

students.

● Oversee day‐to‐day activities while maintaining required ratios.


JOB COMPLEXITY

● Maintain visual and auditory supervision while supporting daily operations and required ratios.

● Apply appropriate disciplinary strategies and notify the Site Director when needed.

● Promote positive behavior and communicate concerns to the Site Director.

● Assist students with academic homework.

● Develop and implement clubs, activities, and curriculum that support program goals.

● Carry out responsibilities according to guidance from the immediate supervisor.

● Work effectively across all program service areas for Agency wide effective communication and

operations

● Under HR’s direction will participate in preparing and reviewing in any legal related matters


STAFF SUPERVISION

● No supervisory responsibilities except occasional project‐based work.


COMMUNICATION

● Maintain strong, professional relationships with the school site, parents, children, and Harmonium staff.

● Provide specific, consistent communication with parents regarding their child each day.


AGENCY LEADERSHIP

● Adhere to policies determined by agency leadership; while not responsible for service development, may

provide input on policies, procedures, or potential improvements.


DECISION MAKING

● Judgments and decisions are guided by Harmonium and program policies, contracts and guidelines, and

Title 22 regulations


MINIMUM COMPETENCIES

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

● Must be 18 years of age or older

● Must meet the minimum education requirements per CA State Licensing Standards:

○ Completion, with passing grades, of 12 semester units in Child Development or related fields

○ OR Completion, with passing grades, of (6) units of Child Development or related field AND

currently enrolled in the other (6) units of Child Development or related fields

■ “Related fields" can include: Recreation, Art/Theater, Music, Dance, Physical Education,

Human Services/Social Welfare (Nursing, Psychology, Sociology or Home Economics)

Elementary/Middle School teacher credential courses or ECE/CD or School Age units

■ “Passing grade” is considered a C or higher

● Must have a minimum of 6 months experience working, volunteering and/or interning in a child care

setting


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY

● Demonstrated ability in sports, special interests, hobbies, and/or arts & crafts

● Ability to relate well to children and adults

● Ability to lead a group of students in activities


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS UPON HIRE

● Must have reliable transportation

● Must receive Fingerprint Clearance (paid by Harmonium)

● Must submit the following:

○ Health screening (no older than 1 year)

○ TB test results (no older than 1 year)

○ Immunization records for Measles, Pertussis and annual Influenza (or sign an annual declination

declining the Influenza shot)

○ Valid EMSA Pediatric First Aid CPR AED certification within 30 days of hire


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

● Ability to actively supervise and roam designated areas at all times to ensure a direct line of sight of all

students, including but not limited to:

○ Standing, walking, and moving for extended periods of time throughout the shift

● In the case of elopement, or a student leaving their designated area, the ability to promptly follow and

safely return the student to their designated area

● Ability to operate a vehicle

● High energy needed with the ability to balance multiple high-stress tasks

● Ability to work in a noisy and outdoor environment

● Ability to travel throughout the county with the flexibility required to meet job duties

● Frequent repetitive hand use and simple grasping, i.e., desk and computer functions

● Ability to sit for prolonged periods

● Ability to lift and carry up to twenty pounds

● Ability to operate a computer

Part time; 0 - 34 hours per week; Monday - Friday, shift/hours vary by site
