Role Description The Associate Attorney role is a full-time, on-site position based in one of our several California or Nevada offices. The attorney will manage a litigation caseload involving insurance defense matters, including personal injury, premises liability, construction defect, and government/municipal liability. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and coverage opinions; conducting legal research; and preparing reports to clients and carriers. The role involves attending and arguing law and motion hearings, taking and defending depositions, participating in mediations and settlement conferences, and preparing cases for trial. The Associate Attorney will collaborate with partners, fellow attorneys, and staff to develop case strategies, evaluate exposure, and support fraud prevention and SIU-focused investigations.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Law with demonstrated experience in insurance defense or civil litigation; familiarity with Labor and Employment Law is a plus.
- Ability to provide practical, timely Legal Advice to clients and insurance carriers, including clear written analysis and exposure evaluation.
- Proficiency in legal Research, including case law, statutes, regulations, and insurance coverage issues relevant to defense and SIU matters.
- Effective Negotiation skills for mediations, settlement conferences, and informal resolution of disputes.
- Active license in good standing with the State Bar of California.
- 1–5 years of relevant litigation experience (insurance defense, personal injury, or related practice areas preferred).
- Excellent legal writing, oral advocacy, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail and organization.
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in an on-site team environment.
- Experience with depositions, motion practice, and court appearances in California state courts is highly desirable.
- Commitment to professional ethics, client service, and continuous development of trial and advocacy skills.
