Position Summary

The Hand Sort Lead is responsible for assisting the Production Manager and Production Supervisor in coordinating processing operations, line speeds, production schedules, lot run times, pre-operational inspections, changeovers, and internal inspections. This position plays a critical role in maintaining product quality, food safety, employee supervision, and production efficiency while ensuring compliance with GMP, HACCP, food defense, allergen, and company safety requirements.

Essential Functions

• Assist the Production Supervisor and Manager with processing procedures and production activities.
• Coordinate schedules, line speeds, and lot run times.
• Oversee hand sort employees and daily production activities.
• Maintain product flow to sorting lines.
• Assist with startup procedures to ensure equipment and processing lines are safe and operational.
• Perform and document equipment, line, facility, chemical, safety, and emergency response inspections.
• Monitor incoming product to the processing plant.
• Assist in maintaining production orders and schedules.
• Verify proper packaging materials and labels are utilized.
• Notify management of product, equipment, employee, or safety concerns.
• Generate timesheets for contract labor employees.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and legible production logs and records.
• Participate in pre-operational inspections and sanitation activities.
• Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action plans.
• Follow all GMP, HACCP, food safety, allergen, food defense, and company safety requirements.
• Wear required PPE at all times.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Computer experience required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

• Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.
• Ability to prepare reports and maintain production documentation.
• Ability to follow complex written and verbal procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to supervise employees and coordinate production activities.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work flexible schedules and extended hours when required.

Work Environment

• Food manufacturing and pistachio processing facility.
• Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, heat, cold temperatures, heights, and workplace hazards.
• Indoor and outdoor work environments.
• Frequent interaction with production personnel, supervisors, contractors, and management.
• Must comply with all GMP, food safety, sanitation, PPE, and company safety requirements.
