Job Title: - Journey-Level Engineer
Location: - Oakland CA 94612 (Remote)
Duration: - 12+ months with possible extension
Position Summary:
This position is represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining. The role is for a journey-level engineer who has mastered Associate engineer skills and duties and is responsible for leading the engineering and design of more complex projects. The journey engineer exercises independent judgment in applying engineering principles and works with minimal supervision. Collaboration with engineers, project managers, construction personnel, and other business partners to assess project needs is essential. Additional responsibilities include developing technical studies and reports, providing guidance to contractors and outside vendors, and traveling to/from project-related functions approximately 20% of the time.
This hybrid position requires working from a remote office and an assigned work location within the Bay Area Service Territory, based on business needs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Resolve problems of moderate scope using standard solutions
- Independently plan work under general direction; progress reviewed periodically for technical accuracy
- Perform functions of Associate level Engineer as needed
- Provide technical expertise, conduct engineering analyses, studies, and develop conceptual designs
- Present findings to internal teams, contractors, and vendors
- Conduct walkdowns and design review meetings
- Prepare technical documents including design criteria, scope documents, specifications, and reports
- Develop, evaluate, and recommend alternative project proposals
- Solicit, prepare, and evaluate contracts/proposals from engineering consultants
- Review consultant contracts for technical compliance
- Interpret and apply applicable codes and regulations
- Participate in developing restoration plans and assist in root cause analysis
- Approve reports, new drawings, and revisions to existing drawings
- Respond promptly to facility failures in emergencies
- Represent client to government bodies for assigned projects
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited US curriculum or equivalent from outside the US
- 3 years of cumulative experience in engineering and design
Desired:
- Electrical transmission line engineering for 115kv–500kv
- Strong familiarity with GO 95, NESC, and transmission line standards and construction practices
- Strong familiarity with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, etc.
- Skills in project management
