Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Patient Registrar to support patient access operations within a healthcare setting. The Patient Registrar will be responsible for accurately registering and pre-registering outpatient and inpatient accounts, verifying patient information, collecting financial information, and ensuring patients receive efficient and welcoming service throughout the registration process.

The Patient Registrar will work closely with patients, providers, insurance companies, and internal departments to ensure accurate account setup, proper documentation, and compliance with healthcare policies and HIPAA regulations.

Schedule
5x8 hr shifts, weekends required
Must be flexible during orientation, as hours may vary from the regular schedule

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform patient registration and pre-registration activities for outpatient and inpatient accounts
  • Verify patient demographics, insurance information, and billing details for accuracy
  • Calculate and collect patient financial responsibilities including copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, physicians, and healthcare staff
  • Communicate with insurance companies, guarantors, and internal departments regarding patient accounts
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and patient privacy standards
  • Navigate multiple computer systems and screens while maintaining accuracy and efficiency
  • Resolve registration discrepancies and assist with account-related issues
  • Support a fast-paced healthcare environment while managing multiple priorities

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility, medical office, or medical billing environment
  • Insurance and billing experience required
  • Experience with patient registration, insurance verification, or healthcare administrative processes
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and ability to navigate multiple systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong typing skills, 45+ WPM required
  • Ability to understand medical terminology preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to multitask in a high-volume healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous hospital registration or patient access experience
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Bilingual Spanish or Mandarin preferred
  • Experience working with healthcare insurance plans and patient billing processes

Education & Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to provide a physical copy of high school diploma, GED, or higher education documentation if requested
  • Must be flexible during orientation, as schedule may differ from standard shift hours
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations for outpatient services if needed
  • LA City Fire Card required within 6 months of employment (if applicable)
