About the Role:
The Junior GeoProfessional will play a critical role in supporting geotechnical and geological projects. This position involves assisting geoprofessionals in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting geological data to inform project decisions including safety and compliance. The role requires active participation in field investigations, laboratory testing, calculations, and report writing to contribute to comprehensive site assessments and reports, and to assist with administrative tasks. The Junior GeoProfessional will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support the recommendations for engineering solutions based on subsurface conditions. Ultimately, this position aims to develop technical expertise while delivering accurate and reliable geotechnical information that supports successful project outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of geological and geotechnical principles and practices, or working toward Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineer or Geology, with classes having been taken in upper division geotechnical engineer and/or geology classes..
- Familiarity with field sampling techniques and data collection methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Internship or practical experience in geotechnical or geological fieldwork.
- Experience with geotechnical software such as Settle3, Slide2, FLAC, or similar tools.
- Experience with JupyterLabs.
- Knowledge of local environmental and safety regulations related to field investigations.
- Certification or coursework in health and safety practices relevant to fieldwork.
- Ability to operate field equipment such as GPS devices, or soil testing apparatus.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct fieldwork including soil sampling, drilling oversight, and site inspections under supervision.
- Assist in the collection, processing, and interpretation of geological and geotechnical data.
- Geotechnical engineering calculations to support recommendations.
- Support the preparation of technical reports, maps, and documentation for internal and client use.
- Collaborate with engineers and geologists.
- Maintain equipment and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations during field and laboratory activities.
Skills:
The Junior GeoProfessional will utilize analytical skills daily to interpret geological data and support decision-making processes. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with team members and preparing clear, concise technical reports. Proficiency with software tools enables efficient data management, mapping, and visualization of subsurface conditions. Fieldwork skills, including the safe operation of sampling and testing equipment, are critical for accurate data collection and compliance with safety standards. Additionally, problem-solving abilities help address unexpected challenges encountered during investigations and contribute to innovative engineering solutions.
