POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Mechanic – Vacuum Pump Technician performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on vacuum systems and related mechanical/electro-mechanical equipment. This role supports manufacturing and engineering operations through hands-on maintenance, system assembly, leak detection, and vacuum system performance optimization while maintaining cleanroom and safety standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Perform routine and moderately complex maintenance and repair on mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and vacuum systems following detailed instructions and established procedures
· Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair vacuum equipment and system failures related to pressure degradation, vacuum quality, leaks, or mechanical malfunctions
· Perform preventative maintenance on primary and secondary vacuum pumps, including rotary/roughing pumps, scroll pumps, and turbomolecular pumps
· Change oils, replace scroll tips, service pumps, and maintain supporting vacuum equipment
· Operate helium mass spectrometer leak detectors and residual gas analyzers (RGAs) to identify, isolate, and repair vacuum leaks
· Perform vacuum system bake-outs and conditioning processes at elevated temperatures to support ultra-high vacuum performance
· Assemble and modify vacuum system components, including ConFlat (CF) flange connections, seals, and associated hardware using contamination-control practices
· Maintain plumbing and supporting mechanical systems as required
· Work from drawings, schematics, written procedures, and verbal instructions
· Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and documentation
· Follow cleanroom, safety, and contamination-control procedures
· Perform other related duties as assigned
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Two years of related maintenance experience OR two years of concentrated maintenance training
· Experience working with vacuum systems, pumps, or related mechanical equipment preferred
· Basic understanding of vacuum systems, gas flow, and material handling in controlled environments
· Familiarity with helium leak detectors, residual gas analyzers (RGAs), multimeters, and precision mechanical tools
· Ability to read drawings, schematics, and technical instructions
· Strong troubleshooting and hands-on mechanical skills
· Ability to work independently and support multiple priorities in a manufacturing environment

· Frequent use of hand tools, precision instruments, and mechanical equipment
· Work may involve vacuum systems, cleanroom environments, and fine-detail mechanical assembly
· Frequent movement between workstations, equipment, and maintenance areas
· Occasional lifting of tools, pumps, materials, and equipment
· Work may involve tight spaces, elevated surfaces, and extended periods of focused troubleshooting
· Use of appropriate cleanroom and personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required
