Job Title: 1st Shift CNC Mill Machinist (Machinist II – Aerospace)

Job Description

This role is a hands-on CNC Mill Machinist position in an aerospace manufacturing environment, focused on setting up and operating advanced multi-axis CNC equipment to produce precision components from a wide range of exotic materials. You will hold extremely tight tolerances, perform detailed in-process inspections, and ensure all work meets engineering drawings, specifications, and stringent aerospace quality standards, including AS9100 and ITAR requirements. This is a full-time, first-shift opportunity, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with regular overtime of up to two hours per day.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate advanced CNC equipment, including dual pallet 4-axis machining centers and multi-tasking turning centers (e.g., Mazak, Okuma, and similar platforms).
  • Machine aerospace components from aluminum alloys, copper alloys (including Beryllium Copper), stainless steels, high heat-treat materials, titanium, lightweight composites, phenolics, plastics, and high-temperature alloys such as 300M.
  • Work to extremely tight tolerances, including tolerances as tight as ±0.0001" on various turning and milling applications.
  • Use dial indicators and other precision tools to perform machine setup and on-machine inspection of forgings and finished parts.
  • Optimize CNC programs to improve efficiency, repeatability, and accuracy while maintaining part quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Document tooling and machine setup following first article (FA) approval to ensure consistent repeatability on subsequent runs.
  • Complete required inspection reports and maintain accurate, up-to-date records in accordance with AS9100 and internal procedures.
  • Identify, report, and document defects or quality concerns, and escalate issues to supervision or quality engineering as appropriate.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on CNC machines to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in CNC machining and assist in training and mentoring co-workers as assigned.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and military/aerospace specifications to produce conforming parts.
  • Perform thorough in-process and final inspections using precision measurement tools and gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Follow AS9100 Quality Management System requirements, shop practices, and traveler instructions; sign off job travelers upon completion of full batches.
  • Ensure full traceability of parts, including serial number identification, documentation, and recordkeeping.
  • Handle aerospace components carefully to avoid damage and maintain clean, organized, and FOD-free inspection and work areas.
  • Maintain accurate physical and electronic documentation for all machining and inspection activities in compliance with quality standards.
  • Inspect your own work continuously to confirm parts meet all quality, dimensional, and tolerance requirements.
  • Support production schedules and on-time delivery by maintaining a high level of efficiency and flexibility in assigned tasks.
  • Participate in cross-functional tasks and support other departments or operations as needed to maintain production flow.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment by following all safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineering, quality, and peers to resolve technical issues and improve processes.
  • Advise supervision of equipment performance concerns and maintenance needs to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented environment while also working independently with minimal supervision when required.

Essential Skills

  • Ideal minimum of 10+ years of experience operating and setting up Mill/Turn machines (such as Integrex, WFL) and multi-axis CNC mills (5–7 axis).
  • Strong proficiency in CNC machining, including turning, multi-axis milling, and multitasking machining centers.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and military/aerospace specifications.
  • Demonstrated skill using precision inspection equipment, including dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and similar tools.
  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience machining to tight tolerances, including ±0.0001".
  • Familiarity with AS9100 Quality Management System requirements and aerospace machining shop practices.
  • Experience working with exotic aerospace materials such as titanium, 300M, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys.
  • Ability to document machining processes, maintain part and serial number traceability, and comply with all quality system documentation requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities in a CNC machining environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on quality, efficiency, and process reliability.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience machining aluminum alloys, copper alloys (including Beryllium Copper), stainless steel, high heat-treat materials, titanium, lightweight composites, phenolics, and plastics.
  • in manual machining and tooling selection to support efficient CNC setups and operations.
  • Experience with CNC programming or program optimization for multi-axis mills and mill/turn machines.
  • Comfort working with and interpreting detailed traveler instructions and shop documentation.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams.
