Job Description

This role focuses on repairing and refurbishing mobile office trailers and modular buildings, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, flooring, and painting. You will use hand and power tools daily, maintain inventory and a clean work area, and ensure units are ready for delivery. The position offers a hands-on opportunity for individuals interested in construction and mechanical work, with no prior experience required but a strong interest in the trades and HVAC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs on mobile office trailers and modular buildings, including framing, finish carpentry, electrical work, flooring, plumbing, painting, running gear, and other aspects of modular building repair.
• Carry out light carpentry, electrical, and HVAC tasks in accordance with company guidelines and safety standards.
• Maintain proper inventory levels of equipment, tools, and parts needed to complete service tasks efficiently.
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards to support a safe and productive environment.
• Maintain a safe work environment and follow all company safety policies and safe work practices.
• Provide courteous customer service over the phone and in person, clearly explaining repairs and services to customers.
• Ensure trailers and modular units are fully prepared and ready for scheduled delivery dates.
• Perform service-related tasks in the yard as requested, including general maintenance and support activities.
• Conduct service calls within assigned branch territories, traveling to customer sites as needed.
• Attend bi-monthly safety meetings and actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.
• Close up multi-sectional units and ensure all doors and windows are properly shut on idle fleet units.
• Assist in ordering materials, receiving deliveries, and unloading materials safely and efficiently.
• Operate forklifts safely to move materials and equipment within the yard and work areas.
• Perform office maintenance and repair tasks as assigned, ensuring facilities remain in good working condition.
• Perform system checks and maintenance on HVAC systems in line with company procedures.
• Ensure routine maintenance tasks are completed according to established schedules and documented procedures.
• Use hand tools and power tools daily to perform installation, repair, and maintenance tasks on modular units.
• Collaborate with team members to complete production on modular units within the targeted time frame.

Essential Skills

• Strong interest in construction and working with hand tools throughout the workday, even without prior experience.
• Ability to perform or learn basic carpentry, including framing and finish work on modular buildings.
• Ability to perform or learn basic electrical tasks related to modular office trailers.
• Ability to perform or learn basic plumbing tasks as part of modular building repair and maintenance.
• Ability to perform or learn HVAC-related tasks, including system checks and routine maintenance.
• Comfort using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a yard and shop environment.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
• Basic computer knowledge to support documentation, communication, and work order processing.
• Good communication skills for interacting with customers, coworkers, and sales staff.
• Willingness to attend regular safety meetings and adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• EPA certification preferred, especially for candidates with HVAC responsibilities.
• Experience in HVAC and construction is preferred but not required.
• Experience with carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, or flooring is a plus.
• Experience with installation and field service work on modular or similar structures is beneficial.
• Experience operating forklifts or other material-handling equipment is an advantage.
• Ability to maintain inventory of tools, parts, and materials efficiently.
• Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to explain repairs and services clearly.
• Organizational skills to maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• Comfort working on a single modular unit from start to finish over a defined production schedule.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, organized yard environment dedicated to modular office units. You will typically work on one modular at a time, either inside a refurbished unit or in a designated unit that holds tools and materials. Production on a single modular generally takes about 30 to 35 hours, with a goal of completing approximately one unit per week depending on customer needs. The work involves daily use of hand and power tools, as well as occasional forklift operation, and includes both indoor and outdoor tasks around the yard. The environment is structured, safety-focused, and paced to support consistent, high-quality output.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vacaville, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
