Job Title: Valve Technician
Job Description
This hands-on mechanical role focuses on disassembling, inspecting, repairing, and reassembling industrial valves and pumps. You primarily work in a shop environment, with occasional field assignments, using a variety of hand tools and measuring instruments to troubleshoot and restore equipment to proper operating condition. This position is well-suited for individuals with automotive, maintenance, or general mechanical backgrounds who enjoy practical, tool-based work and can handle a physical, industrial setting.
Responsibilities
- Disassemble industrial valves and pumps using appropriate hand tools and equipment.
- Inspect components for wear, damage, and defects, using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and determine the root cause of equipment failures or performance problems.
- Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective parts in accordance with established procedures and tolerances.
- Reassemble valves and pumps to specification, ensuring correct fitment, alignment, and torque settings.
- Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting on valves, pumps, and related rotating equipment.
- Interpret and follow blueprints, mechanical drawings, and step-by-step work instructions.
- Apply a basic understanding of tolerances, wear patterns, and fitment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Document work performed, including measurements taken, parts replaced, and tests conducted.
- Support preventative maintenance activities on valves, pumps, and other mechanical systems as needed.
- Follow safety procedures and best practices while working in an industrial shop environment.
- Collaborate with team members to complete jobs efficiently while also handling independent bench work.
- Participate in occasional field work to support equipment service or repair at customer sites.
- Work Monday–Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with expected overtime and occasional weekend work during peak workloads and plant shutdowns.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on mechanical experience with disassembly and reassembly of equipment such as engines, pumps, or gearboxes.
- Proficiency using hand tools including wrenches, sockets, and torque tools.
- Ability to use measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures accurately.
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with engine repair or engine maintenance.
- Experience in repair work rather than solely operating or running machines.
- Ability to read and follow step-by-step procedures and mechanical instructions.
- Basic understanding of tolerances, wear, and fitment in mechanical assemblies.
- Capability to identify worn or damaged parts and determine when replacement is necessary.
- Strong attention to detail, especially in measurement, inspection, and reassembly tasks.
- Ability to clearly explain previous repairs, tools used, and diagnostic steps taken.
- Comfort working in an industrial, physical, and tool-based environment.
- Willingness and availability to work early start times, overtime, and occasional weekends.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on cars, motorcycles, or small engines.
- Experience in HVAC, plumbing, or other mechanical systems.
- Experience in assembly or maintenance roles in industrial, manufacturing, or shop environments.
- Familiarity with pumps, valves, or rotating equipment.
- Exposure to preventative maintenance practices on mechanical systems.
- Experience with pressure testing or fluid systems (considered a strong plus but not required).
- Ability to operate with minimal supervision over time and take ownership of assigned work.
- Good documentation habits, including writing up work performed and recording measurements.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to perform independent bench work effectively.
Why Work Here?
You gain valuable technical skills and specialized experience working on industrial valves and pumps used in critical infrastructure industries. The role offers a clear path for career growth, allowing entry-level candidates to progress into higher-level technician or field service positions with increased responsibility and compensation. You benefit from consistent hours on a Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. schedule that supports work-life balance, while still having access to overtime opportunities, especially during peak workloads and plant shutdowns. The work supports stable, essential sectors such as energy, manufacturing, and water systems, providing long-term industry stability. This opportunity is ideal if you prefer a hands-on, mechanical, and tool-based work environment over a desk-based role.
Work Environment
You work primarily in a shop environment that can become warm in the summer and cold in the winter, so you should be comfortable in varying temperatures and industrial conditions. The role involves frequent use of hand tools such as wrenches, sockets, and torque tools, along with measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, and tape measures. The work is physical and may require standing for extended periods, handling components, and performing repetitive mechanical tasks. The standard schedule is Monday–Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with expected overtime and occasional weekend work during peak periods and plant shutdowns. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and a hands-on, tool-based approach to maintaining and repairing critical mechanical equipment.
