Job Summary

The Laboratory Animal Resource Center (LARC) Operations Department is seeking a dependable and hardworking Animal Technician – Washroom to support the cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance of laboratory animal equipment and facility areas. This role is responsible for operating washroom equipment, handling cages and supplies, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring compliance with institutional safety and sanitation standards. Candidates with warehouse, janitorial, housekeeping, or environmental services experience are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean, sanitize, and disinfect animal cages, racks, water bottles, and related equipment.
• Operate industrial cage washers, bottle washers, autoclaves, and other washroom equipment.
• Prepare clean cages and supplies for animal care staff.
• Transport cages, equipment, and supplies throughout the facility.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe washroom environment.
• Follow established SOPs, biosafety, and infection control procedures.
• Dispose of waste and soiled materials according to safety guidelines.
• Monitor equipment and report maintenance or operational issues.
• Maintain inventory of washroom supplies and equipment.
• Work collaboratively with the LARC Operations team and support additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience in warehouse, janitorial, housekeeping, environmental services, or custodial work preferred.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in laboratory animal facilities or research environments.
• Familiarity with industrial cleaning equipment or autoclaves.
• Knowledge of sanitation, safety, and infection control practices.
