Position Summary

The Quality 3 (Q3) position is responsible for assisting the Quality Manager in all aspects of the food safety and quality program and ensuring that all testing, inspections, verifications, and regulatory requirements are completed accurately and timely. This position is responsible for ensuring the food safety, quality, legality, and compliance of Primex processed products while supporting food safety programs, audits, product releases, investigations, and quality assurance activities. The Q3 position must comply with GMP, HACCP, food defense, allergen control, hygienic zoning, food safety requirements, and all company safety policies while maintaining accurate documentation and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions

• Verify all products shipped comply with Primex, customer, USDA, FDA, food safety, quality, and legal requirements.
• Verify labels, packaging, microbiological specifications, and chemical specifications.
• Collect product samples and aseptic microbiological samples.
• Coordinate USDA and aflatoxin testing programs.
• Prepare and ship samples for microbiological and chemical testing.
• Coordinate and prepare treated product samples for testing.
• Verify product categories, weights, and license plate information.
• Print and post license plates for finished products.
• Identify and report defects in inshell and shelled pistachio products.
• Record quality and food safety data accurately on paper and electronic forms.
• Stop production when necessary due to food safety, quality, or regulatory concerns.
• Perform pre-operational line inspections and startup verifications.
• Conduct post-sanitation inspections and environmental swabbing activities.
• Perform pre-maintenance and post-maintenance inspections and releases.
• Review CCP records and issue holds when required.
• Notify production operators of non-conformances.
• Verify scales, moisture analyzers, and metal detectors are functioning properly.
• Perform product cost analysis.
• Assist with inventory verification and product holds.
• Assist with customer complaint investigations and root cause analysis.
• Collect, record, and photograph magnet findings.
• Report incidents involving allergens, metal detector failures, pest control issues, and foreign material findings.
• Prepare documentation for order releases and upload records into designated systems.
• Request certificate revisions from external laboratories when necessary.
• Verify employee compliance with GMPs and SOPs.
• Notify management of food safety, quality, legality, and compliance concerns.
• Assist with internal audits and audit preparation activities.
• Serve as backup for the Quality Supervisor during absences.
• Assist in training Quality 1 and Quality 2 personnel.
• Review product results to ensure quality, microbiological, chemical, and grade specifications are met.
• Upload and maintain quality documentation in NAV and designated company systems.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Strong reading, writing, and mathematical skills required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Food manufacturing, food safety, quality assurance, auditing, or laboratory experience preferred.
• Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills required.

Work Environment

• Food manufacturing and pistachio processing facility.
• Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, varying temperatures, heights, and workplace hazards.
• Exposure to food ingredients, packaging materials, sanitation chemicals, and production equipment.
• Indoor and outdoor work environments.
• Frequent interaction with USDA personnel, auditors, inspectors, laboratory personnel, production employees, warehouse personnel, and management.
• Must comply with GMP, HACCP, food defense, allergen control, hygienic zoning, food safety, PPE, and company safety requirements.
