Quality Inspector — Aerospace Manufacturing

Position Summary
A confidential aerospace manufacturing client is seeking experienced 2nd Shift Quality Inspectors to support production and inspection operations on a temp-to-hire basis. The ideal candidate will have strong aerospace inspection experience, advanced blueprint reading skills, working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5, and the ability to inspect mechanical components, assemblies, or CMM-related inspection requirements.
This position requires someone who can work independently, interpret inspection results, determine product conformance, document findings accurately, and escalate quality concerns when needed. Candidates must be comfortable working in a regulated aerospace manufacturing environment and supporting first article, in-process, and final inspection activity.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect aerospace components, assemblies, and finished products to verify conformance to blueprints, job travelers, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements.
- Perform first and final inspections to confirm product readiness and compliance prior to shipment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, tolerances, and inspection requirements.
- Apply strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing — GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
- Use precision measuring tools and inspection equipment to validate dimensional and visual requirements.
- Utilize or support inspection using a Coordinate Measuring Machine — CMM to validate GD&T and dimensional requirements.
- Review and approve AS9102 First Article Inspection forms and other validation documentation.
- Interpret inspection data and determine whether parts meet customer and internal quality standards.
- Identify and communicate nonconforming material, documentation errors, or quality concerns.
- Provide clear feedback to production, quality, or engineering teams when product quality issues are identified.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and support compliance with aerospace quality standards.
- Work independently while escalating technical or quality-related issues as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of quality inspection experience in aerospace manufacturing, precision manufacturing, or a closely related industry.
- Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and dimensional inspection methods.
- Experience performing first inspection, final inspection, and dimensional inspection.
- Familiarity with AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation.
- Experience using inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, thread gauges, pin gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
- CMM experience or strong exposure to CMM inspection processes.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and communicate quality issues professionally.
- Must be able to provide proper documentation for ITAR/export-control compliance during the interview and onboarding process, if required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Aerospace manufacturing inspection experience.
- Experience inspecting machined components, mechanical assemblies, or aerospace hardware.
- Experience in an AS9100 or similar quality-controlled manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and how they affect product quality.
- Prior experience reviewing, creating, or approving AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation.
- Prior experience as a subject matter expert in mechanical inspection, assembly inspection, or CMM inspection.
