Position Overview
We are seeking a senior commercial litigation attorney to join our firm as Counsel or Partner. The ideal candidate will lead complex commercial disputes through cases lifecycle and will help first chair matters for the Litigation Department. This role requires strong analytic and advocacy skills, and hands-on experience with real estate litigation, shareholder and partnership disputes, and breach of contract matters. The attorney will manage teams, mentor junior lawyers, and maintain high-quality client service while expanding the firms commercial litigation practice. A portable book is not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and try complex commercial litigation matters as first or second chair, including bench and jury trials.
- Manage all phases of litigation: case intake, investigation, discovery strategy, pleadings, dispositive motions, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.
- Handle disputes involving real estate litigation, shareholder disputes, partnership disputes, breach of contract claims, and other complex matters.
- Develop and implement litigation strategy that aligns with client objectives and business realities.
- Supervise, mentor, and train associates and paralegals; delegate tasks and review work product to ensure quality and compliance with firm standards.
- Conduct depositions, prepare experts and witnesses, and manage expert discovery and testimony.
- Draft and argue dispositive motions, pre-trial motions, and appellate briefs when necessary.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships; serve as a trusted advisor to clients on risk assessment and dispute resolution options.
- Collaborate with transactional, corporate, and real estate teams on disputes that overlap with business and transactional issues.
- Drive business development initiatives: market the practice, develop client leads, participate in networking, and contribute to proposals and client pitches.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Barred in CA
- 8+ years of commercial litigation experience, with a demonstrable record of handling complex litigation matters.
- Proven first-chair and second-chair trial experience in bench and jury trials; strong courtroom presence and persuasive advocacy skills.
- Substantial experience in real estate litigation, shareholder disputes, partnership and partner disputes, and breach of contract cases.
- Demonstrated success in managing all phases of litigation including discovery, dispositive motions, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with a track record of preparing high-quality pleadings, motion papers, and appellate filings.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing junior attorneys and support staff.
- Business development aptitude with experience generating and maintaining client relationships and contributing to firm growth.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with attention to practical client-focused outcomes.
- High professional and ethical standards, strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative law firm environment.
