Job DescriptionESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Implement age and developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities within the established guidelines.
- Implement daily lesson/activity plans for the classroom. Submits lesson plans weekly.
- Supervise the children and non-lead teachers, classroom, and all activities.
- Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Participate in parent conferences when necessary, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
- Maintain program site and equipment.
- Maintain required program records.
- Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, material explorations, staff meetings, and staff training.
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
- Promote, establish and maintain a positive YMCA image at all times.
- Dress in an appropriate and professional manner following YMCA rules and guidelines.
- Follow YMCA work rules and procedures to complete all assigned tasks and duties in an efficient, timely and positive manner at all times.
- Model anti-biased behavior towards children, parents or staff.
- Take initiative to be willing to assume additional responsibilities as needed, including providing other teacher's breaks as needed.
- Follow all YMCA, Child Development Department, and State Licensing policies and procedures at all times.
- Maintain State Licensing and staff/child ratios requirements at all times.
- Help orient new parents and children to the program, assisting with tours as needed.
- Be flexible with their room assignments, willing to assist in the classrooms that need their help with a positive attitude.
- Address parent concerns and comments in a timely and professional manner; keep the Early Learning Center Director informed of all parent concerns and issues.
- Cooperate with the director through any program changes, investigations, and coaching opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 12+ ECE units from an accredited college and a commitment to continue education to obtain an AA or BA in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Infant Toddler ECE units are required. Completed of infant and toddler courses from an accredited college with a "C" grade or better.
- Complete in-house and online Safety, Sexual Harassment, Child Abuse Prevention, Mandated Reporter and other assigned trainings within the first 30 days of hire.
- Up-to-date TB test every 2 years. If you have a chest x-ray on file a TB test is no longer required.
- Must have a current Live scan active on file.
- One year previous experience working with infants and/or toddlers in a developmental setting preferred.
- Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
- American Red Cross
- American Heart Association
- American Safety & Health Institute
