Who are we?
KoobrikLabs is a creative technology partner helping studios, agencies, and creative and regulated organizations adapt to changes in technology in ways that are practical, safe, and aligned with how their work actually happens.
We work with clients to:
- Understand workflows, data realities, and platform constraints
- Operate and modernize business-critical platforms
- Design and deliver pragmatic engineering roadmaps
- Build and maintain bespoke systems that protect data, users, and the business
Role Purpose
KoobrikLabs is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to serve as the primary engineering resource on a managed service supporting a live business critical client platform. You will own the day-to-day engineering work including bug resolution, monitoring, and platform improvements and contribute to an upcoming modernization and migration effort.
This is a hands-on, client-facing role for someone who is comfortable owning a production environment, working directly with end users on support tickets, and balancing steady-state engineering against planned modernization work.
You will work closely with our Service Delivery Manager, the client's product team, and end users to keep the platform stable, responsive, and on a healthy trajectory.
What You'll Be Doing
Day to day, you are responsible for the following:
- Resolve approximately 5–6 platform bugs per week end-to-end: investigation, fix, testing, and deployment
- Operate as the lead engineer on a Drupal-based platform hosted on AWS
- Maintain and tune the underlying database layer, ensuring performance, integrity, and reliability
- Support proactive monitoring: review logs, surface degradation patterns, and intervene before issues reach end users
- Contribute to migration and modernization planning for the platform
- Communicate directly with end users on support tickets in a regulated, high-trust environment
- Work within a structured incident management process (Jira-based ticketing, severity classification, SLA tracking)
- Partner with the Service Delivery Manager on triage, escalation, and customer communication
Accountabilities
- Maintain platform stability and uptime for a regulated end-user base
- Deliver bug fixes within agreed SLAs and at a quality bar appropriate for a regulated environment
- Provide clear, well-documented engineering work that the broader team can pick up and extend
- Contribute credible technical input to modernization and migration planning
- Raise the standard of delivery through repeatable engineering practices, documentation, and tooling
Skills & Experience
Essential
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience operating production systems
- Strong, hands-on Drupal experience is a hard requirement — module development, custom code, upgrades, and production troubleshooting
- Proficient database engineering skills (MySQL/MariaDB or Postgres): schema design, query optimization, migrations, performance tuning
- Strong AWS infrastructure experience: EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, networking fundamentals
- Comfortable owning incident response on a live platform, including direct communication with end users
- Experience working within a ticketed engineering workflow (Jira or equivalent) with severity classification and SLAs
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
Desirable
- Experience migrating Drupal platforms between hosting environments or major versions
- Search infrastructure experience (Solr or similar)
- Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
- CI/CD pipeline experience
- Experience supporting platforms in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, government)
- Familiarity with PHP best practices, automated testing, and modern engineering workflows
What's in it for you?
- High-impact engineering role on a platform with real users and real stakes
- Direct ownership of an end-to-end engagement rather than a slice of a larger team
- Opportunity to shape modernization decisions on a live platform
- Work alongside a small, senior team that values craft and clear thinking
- Flexible, part-time arrangement that can fit alongside other commitments
- Outside-of-work passions welcomed! We value people with interests beyond the job, and we support balanced, sustainable ways of working
Benefits
- Flexible working arrangements
- Paid travel and expenses for client work (as needed)
- Paid learning and development support (training, conferences, or professional development)
Diversity & Inclusion
KoobrikLabs is committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and supportive environment that reflects the world we live in. We encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds and identities, including people of color, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, neurodivergent candidates, and those from non-traditional career paths.
We believe the best teams are built through a broad mix of lived experience, perspectives, and ways of thinking — and we want to make our hiring process accessible and fair. We are happy to provide reasonable accommodations throughout the interview process and support flexible working arrangements where possible.
