Position Summary
The Production Lead is responsible for assisting the Production Manager in overseeing processing operations, coordinating schedules, monitoring line speeds and lot run times, participating in pre-operational inspections and audits, and ensuring product quality and food safety requirements are met. This position plays a key role in supervising production personnel and maintaining compliance with GMP, HACCP, food defense, allergen control, and workplace safety requirements.
Essential Functions
• Assist the Production Manager in all processing procedures.
• Support the development and implementation of production procedures.
• Assist with training production personnel as needed.
• Oversee employees involved in processing and packing operations.
• Maintain product flow to sorting and production lines.
• Assist with daily startup procedures to ensure equipment is safe and operational.
• Monitor product entering the processing plant.
• Perform and document equipment, line, facility, chemical, safety, and emergency response inspections.
• Assist with maintaining production orders and schedules.
• Ensure correct packaging materials and labels are used.
• Notify management of product, employee, or equipment issues.
• Generate timesheets for contract labor.
• Maintain complete and accurate production logs.
• Assist with internal audits, GMP audits, and root cause investigations.
• Assist with production work orders and inventory transactions.
• Serve as backup for Production Supervisors, Operators, and other Leads when necessary.
• Follow all company policies, food safety programs, and safety requirements.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
• High school diploma required.
• Computer experience required.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Previous manufacturing, food processing, or production leadership experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.
• Ability to generate reports and maintain records.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow complex procedures and instructions.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, food safety, allergen control, and safety requirements.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
Work Environment
• Food manufacturing and processing environment.
• Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, heat, cold, moving machinery, and industrial equipment.
• Indoor and outdoor work may be required.
• Exposure to forklifts, processing equipment, chemicals, and production machinery.
• May work around pistachios and other tree nut allergens.
• Requires the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Additional ADA Functional Requirements
• Ability to walk throughout production, warehouse, processing, and packaging areas multiple times per shift.
• Ability to conduct inspections of equipment, production lines, chemicals, safety stations, and facility conditions.
• Ability to climb stairs, ladders, or platforms when necessary to inspect equipment and operations.
• Ability to review production schedules, reports, production logs, inventory records, and audit documentation.
• Ability to prepare reports, complete documentation, and enter data using a computer.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, management, auditors, contractors, and visitors.
• Ability to conduct employee training sessions and safety meetings.
• Ability to distinguish product defects, packaging errors, labeling discrepancies, and food safety concerns.
• Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, hairnets, and other required equipment.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations, food safety incidents, equipment failures, and workplace safety concerns.
• Ability to perform inspections in varying temperatures and environmental conditions.
• Ability to safely work around moving equipment, forklifts, conveyors, and industrial machinery.
• Ability to maintain attention to detail while monitoring multiple production activities simultaneously.
• Ability to comply with all ADA, FEHA, GMP, HACCP, food safety, allergen control, and company safety requirements.
Frequency Definitions
• Occasionally: Up to 33% of the workday.
• Frequently: 34% to 66% of the workday.
• Constantly: 67% to 100% of the workday.
